I have a slight case of entomophobia, particularly toward yellowjackets (a species of wasp). Case in point: Last week I was bitten or stung (they can do both!) while riding home on the bike. Got me on the shin. I felt it strike me, and then came that delightful electric jolt/cigarette burn sensation. I kept pedaling and didn't look down because I was sure that, if I looked down and saw it still on me, I would freak and eject myself from the bike.

These little monsters aren't paper wasps. They're fast and aggressive and I despise them.

One afternoon when I was 9 or 10 years old and we were living on an air base on Puerto Rico, I went to retrieve a kickball from a hedge in a friend's back yard and was stung four times on one hand and three or four on one ankle. These were paper wasps, I think, but it still hurt like the b'jaysus. Any wonder I have "issues"?

My phobia is daddy long legs's. Nasty little buggers that appear round about know and make a beeline for indoors as soon as a light is on. So now I shut windows all the time, no matter how hot it gets!
