How about human stupidity? How many times do I tell people you don't leave a small child with an animal? For the safety of both involved?

How many elements do we have here?

First we were stupid and left our kid with a dog when we knew we weren't supposed to.

Second we know the dog is jealous which is common.

Third we hate the dog and the dog surely knows it.

I say put down the mother for endangering her kid.

No, muzzles are not the answer. Thats just ridiculous.

First off - dogs don't get jealous - that is a human emotion and dogs are dogs.

So, there sits Grandma - smoking some doobie, drinking some of whatever her brew of choice is and taking some pills. Honestly - I think that Mom should go on trial for leaving her little girl with this woman to start with.

A dog will attempt to assert itself between the Alpha and another dog - or pick a fight or any number of things to show that it is above either another dog or another person in the pack - this is about heirarchy, not jealousy.

Assigning human emotions to animals is a very dangerous thing. To assume that your dog has the same emotions as your child (or any other human being you know) takes away that barrier that reminds you that no matter what - your dog is a dog and capable of great damage if not respected for what it is.

I disagree. Completely. Having had dogs for 41 years.

That is your right.

Personally, if I am going to have large powerful dogs in my home - I prefer to know the real reason that it does things. Not the human reason.

No matter how many times the articles come out about these attacks... especially by pit bulls... people do the same thing over and over again.

I dont know how many maulings or deaths it will take.... And there is no sense in arguing the subject. No sense at all.

I think that will be happening in a lot of places soon. Good move indeed.

Jealousy is only a human emotion?

I think not.

With regard to the pack mentality, its seldom the case that a pack animal will make a full blown attack to the death for leadership of any pack and that its simply the case that some animals have in bred faults and can suffer an emotion called jealousy for the affections of a leader such as the owner.

How many people have to be attacked by vicious animals before we demand a license for people to keep animals such as dogs so the inept and morons can be excluded from owning such animals?

I had a fish one time that I loved and I know loved me. Well it got jealous of the cat, thinking the cat was getting more attention. One day when no one was home the fish attacked the cat. Needless to say the cat didn't need supper that evening. At least that is the story I got from the cat.
