Neffy, you do notice that "depriving the IRA of the oxygen of publicity" didn't end the Troubles but that negotiation did? And that the Troubles are over now and the IRA permanently disbanded because people negotiated instead of postured?

Why give them air space? Because if you don't, you are effectively sticking your head in the sand - just as our forebears did with Hitler.

It's pointless to ignore a problem. It will not go away no matter how hard you ignore it.

Although I strongly disagree with a lot of what spot says about bin laden, he is right here, banning his pronouncements from TV would not be a good idea for many reasons, I am against censorship in principal, though it is occasionally necessary I suppose, but in this case its not only philosophically dubious, its also a bad tactic. The people who are most important in the middle east would still hear it, as would anyone who wished to on here, the internet, along with lots of other things that are all on here. Also, it gives a false cachet to him in the eyes of some, and as chookie mentioned, these problems absolutely will not go away by switching over to big brother, not this time unfortunately. I have watched current events unfold with dismay in many instances, particularly iraq, but whatever your take on these things, what is happening now in the muslim world is having or going to have a very direct impact on our own countries, and we cannot afford to ignore it, as we do with so many things in the worlds, because of our lazy complacency.
