I really like Freddie Mercurys version of The Great Pretender sounds really different from than original but its still good
"Why not just tell people I'm an alien from Mars. Tell them I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight. They'll believe anything you say, because you're a reporter. But if I, Michael Jackson, were to say, 'I'm an alien from Mars and I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight', people would say, 'Oh, man, that Michael Jackson is nuts. He's cracked up. You can't believe a damn word that comes out of his mouth.' " Michael Jackson

Mind you, I prefer The Sundays version of Wild Horses, to the Rolling Stones one.

Land Of Confusion by Genesis

I like Disturbed's version better

The poolhall's a great equalizer. In the poolhall, nobody cares how old you are, how young you are, what color your skin is or how much money you've got in your pocket... It's about how you move. I remember this kid once who could move around a pool table like nobody had ever seen. Hour after hour, rack after rack, his shots just went in. The cue was part of his arm and the balls had eyes. And the thing that made him so good was... He thought he could never miss. I know, 'cause that kid was me.

My No.3 all-time favourite song is The Pretenders cover of Dylans "Forever Young"

The one US band that I really wanted to see is Screeching Weasel. I think I have everything they published, they're complete thrill-power. They are simply awesome.

Here's Johnny Nash's original version of "I Can See Clearly Now", which he wrote - it's a great song, it's worth listening to first.

and here's the Screeching Weasel cover ...

and - nothing to do with covers - but the youtube video for Cool Kids is stunning... (that's a bonus)

Okay, I can play this game. Who knows Wheatus and their Teenage Dirtbag hit?

So, who knows there's a bossa nova version of it?

Be warned, this may offend many many people... Earl Okin's live night-club cover:

I bet most people have seen this already but never mind, it belongs here.

This is one of the cleverest covers of all time, it's just Dave Grohl and his Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins in front of a live TV studio audience for "Craig Kilborne's late show" responding, apparently, to an audience request. If they'd just done a straight cover of Stairway to Heaven that would have been something different but they don't. Grohl keeps Hawkins completely silent for the first two thirds of the song, hesitating and dying away himself and getting the audience involved in the song's momentum, refusing to carry the song even though there can be few people on earth who'd know it note and word perfect better than he would. The result is tense, comic and he eventually has the entire audience lapping up the final quarter. It's not so much a cover of a song as perfect performance art, the guy could have been playing Macbeth opposite Ian McKellen he's so in control of the stage.

In Ireland there is a commercial for (I think) Vodaphone, where there is a version of Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance’. This girl signs very softly in almost a whisper type of voice, and it is fantastic. I can’t find it anywhere though.

It's Paula Flynn Mike, and I think it's a bottled water commercial.
