Very sad news today in our community, one of my daughters friends was having a houseparty last nite and it got out of control and one of the boys was killed in a very awful way.
I just want to say to you guys who have teenagers or will get there eventually, if you let your teens have a party stay home and supervise, too often parties are being crashed by mobs and next thing you know when teens take action into their own hands things can get out of control. I can't help wonder if things would have been different if the parents were home

Good jesus thats rough. Thats a terrible incident minks, I hope they catch the bad B*stards who did that to that young kid. Age and/or alcohol or drugs being involved are no excuse for such a brutal kind of act. That is truly terrible, unfortunatly such things can occur on occasion, but thats sounds particularly bad.

my oldest had a party shortly after we were divorced I was out at my brothers and she had to call the police and me ... lucky for her nobody was hurt when the party was invaded by outsiders, not so lucky was all my stereo, PSII gear and games and DVD's as they were all stolen.
I told my girls NEVER again unless I am home needless to say, neither has had a party since and frankly I won't allow one ever again.
It is sad and I don't understand why they get to the level of such violence.

Awful, awful. The other kids wont forget this for the rest of their lives. I was involved quite unexpectedly in something similar in high school. It happened in the blink of an eye. Ours was because of guys being jealous of us girls dating guys from another town. Youve been having a run of upsetting incidents lately. I am thinking of you, and I will try to send you strength beams.
How terrible - its one thing for a party to have a testosterone flair up
but this is too much.

I don't know if the kid was caught or not, I just know when we were coming home just after midnite the area was crawling with police cars and the police helicopter was flying around searching when we went to bed.

When my son had his 18th we stopped at home and had some big men supervise who had an in vitation also we informed the police and they did a patrol past the house every half hour. Its so sad you have to go to these lenghts these days just for a party.

As of today there is still no word who murdered this teen. He did not go to my daughters school. But I suspect many of the kids who were at the party did. I imagine there will be something said and done at my daughters school this morning as it's a school of 3000 and here schools take this kind of incident very seriously Sadly this boy lost his mother suddenly just 6 months ago

I just heard of this this morning on our radio station... That is terribly sad.I though of you when I heard it happened in Calgary I had not idea it was that close to your home.. I bet all the kids are shaken up pretty bad....

you heard this on your radio station wow that is incredible. Yes the kids are all rather shook up, I had a meeting with the school VP today regarding Jr Mink's attendance and we could not get into see the guidance councellors as they are swamped with dealing with the kids in crisis over this. It is very disturbing, they say with over 40 student witness's it is a matter of time and they will find who did it.

Wow, I am so sorry to hear about the tragedy in your town Minks....That is just too sad!--There was a teenage party at a nearby hotel a year or so ago, and a boy got stabbed, the worse thing was that it was intended for someone else, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time....had a football scholorship, sweet kid....etc.....just breaks your heart.
As for the title of the thread, I was actually reluctant to look at the thread due to the fact that I was just talking to my son about Homecoming weekend, I was thinking about going out of town (2 hours away) and the boys would be with their dad and I don't want anyone in the house. He is a good boy, but he's also 18, when my brother was 18 we had friends over in the 2-4 hours mom and dad were gone and made them leave before mom and dad got home (sometimes mom and dad passed them on the street). We had wild parties when they were gone for a weekend...so I was seriously thinking of staying home that weekend....now I KNOW I'm staying HOME!!-1

apparently they found the killer, a 19 year old, so no YOA coming into play with this. Sadly due to the over filled jails he won't get a long enough jail term.

Wow that is AWFUL! I know that some parties get a little rowdy, but you never in your wildest dreams imagine something like that to happen. My thoughts go out to the parents and family of the boy involved, though I worry that being so young, and seeing such horrific sights may leave a damaging effect on everyone involved.

Jr Minks and her group of friends (about 14 of them) were at this girls house party the night before.
Saturday (nite of incident) nite Jr Minks and her friends gather and go to another house party, this party was broken up and Jr Minks and her friends leave, now they leave in 3 different cars they all intended to go to this second party, (the place of this nightmare) but they are slow, and the last group to decide to go to this party, when something (Jr Minks says it was her angel) told every one of her friends to not go and they all just kind of went their separate ways and shortly after that... they all got phone calls and text messages telling them to stay away.
Jr minks swears her grandpa (he is dead) was giving her the message. She is really in a weird state of shock over the fact that not one of her friends went to that party.

The 19 year old has been charged with second degree murder.
My daughter belongs to facebook they started a network for the young 17 year old victim.
It's brand new only a couple days old and it's got respponses from 6 high schools already, from kids who never even knew this young man. It is darn sad to see how this has been burned into the lives of these young adults.
Certainly murder is horrific, certainly there are places all around the world where it's so frequent people are desensitized to it, certainly my city is not out of the ordinary.
It is just hard for us to handle here because we are a smaller city, we still fall back on our small town 'ttude and the horrificness of the fact is a man of 19 lost his temper so badly he could not rationalize right from wrong, picked up a pick ax and laid it into the head of a 17 year old killing him. Thus forever changing the lives of many and landing his self in jail.
Newspapers say he is struggling being behind bars, can't cope. Newspapers state the father of the victim is struggling, he lost his wife 6 months ago, now his son to murder......
You tell me who is suffering the most right now.
Bless all the teens on the support network and I say to you if you ever cross paths with anyone who has lost someone to a death, hug them and let them know they are loved, let them remember their loved on, let them talk about them, say their name often.... they need to know you remember.
BTW, thanks El Taco, you inspired me to write that last paragraph.
