Cicadas

Post by Philadelphia Eagle »

Have the cicadas arrived in your State yet?

We are expecting the annual influx to start anytime.

Once here, they set up a continuous buzzing sound night and day and seem particularly loud on very hot nights.

I can hear them even above the a/c compressor!

Are yours as noisy as ours?

Are yours as noisy as ours?YES!! They are surely as noisy as yours! Ours don't arrive until July and are at their most annoying peak in late August. I think you could compare them to the aggravating cane toad and it's 90decibel "CoKEEEE." But in the dead of winter I long for their calls. Go figure!

He put one on the back of my neck and it started with the screeching whistle sound! I won't embarrass myself further by repeating MY reaction but I'll never forget it.

We get them in NM too - not yet though. It might not be their year this year.

I don`t think we get them here, but aren`t they similar to crickets? Once one of our cats brought in a live cricket in her teeth and gently dropped it on the carpet, where it hopped across the room!

You don't have cicadas up in England, John. You're too far north. Cicadas are semi-tropical. They're nothing like crickets. Crickets 'chirp'. Cicadas buzz, whistle and whine. Believe me you would know whether you have cicadas or not!

John, just looked them up, this was a good site you can actually listen to the sound they make.

I'm not surprised it scared the life out of David!

FYI:

Cicadas kill. Save yourself.

What do Cicadas eat?

Human children are the primary source of nutrition for Cicadas. Are Cicadas poisonous?

Yes, Cicadas have a deadly venom that is injected through a small bone like tube known as the "Cicada deadly venom tube". The venom can kill a human being instantly. In 1987, the last time the Cicadas emerged in the United States, over 7 million people died from Cicada injections. Many people escaped but most perished.

How do Cicadas mate?

The female cicada injects her eggs under the skin of a small human child. The cicada pupae then grow inside the child until they reach maturity. Unless you protect your children they may become host to thousands of deadly Cicada pupae. The government calls this Chicken Pox. See how to protect your children.

With minor surgery and a little makeup can a large Cicada be made to resemble Ryan Seacrest?

Yes, there are many documented cases of Cicadas being successfully altered to look like Ryan Seacrest

We have gathered data from thousands of the world's leading Cicada experts such as Dr. Gene Kritsky of the College of Mt. St. Joseph. Then we compiled our body of research in one place....Cicadaville.com.
