My mistake - thinking British suburbia rather than Australian. Our neighbours are twenty yards away and that's in a village in Leicestershire - in London we've over 500 planning applications active within five hundred meters of the flat.

Hmmm I dunno about this one. I used to have neighbors next door at my last home who had several hunting hounds who barked at all times of the day, and it was maddening living next to that kind of racket.
