Halloween Parade

I took Lucy to a Halloween parade tonight. Seriously I was very scared, not of the parade, but the parents. They were vultures - shouting at their kids - GRAB THE CANDY - jeez ....... :wah: :wah:

This is how bad it was. Lucy loved seeing her Brownie friends and teachers in the parade ... loved it. There was this little girl that was so young she only just learned to walk and her Mum was pregnant and sitting in a chair...Lucy (unprompted) ran for the candy and threw most at the little girl. The other kids around, just ran and knocked the little ones flying, with the parents shouting GET IT!! Very sad, I don't think I will go there again. Actually next year my Brownie Troop will have their own float, so we will promote giving and not grabbing.

I've only been to 2 parades here in town and that is one of the reasons why I won't go....other than the traffic jam...but I have seen what you are talking about Pheasy and it is sad!

As for the story about the little one getting run over, I remember when my oldest was little and I couldn't WAIT to take him to the easter egg hunt in the local park, they just throw eggs in a big field and kids of a certain age range run and get them and put in their basket....my son was on the younger end of the age group and I remember kids just plowing him over and knocking him down without a care in the world....all for an egg....I left there very upset and vowed never to go back...but I did and I kept in mind how it felt and watched out for any other little ones that were treated like my son the year or two before....

This is how I felt too Wendy. And yes I have done the Egg Hunt too. The thing that really pees me off, is you want to take you children to these events so they don't miss out, but each year regret it because it so, un-about what its meant to be standing for, and nasty and ruthless.

Parents can be freaks. I went to my ex's nephew's ballgame and the parents were in the stands screaming at their kids (and sometimes other people's kids) when they made mistakes. Yelling nasty, downright mean crap at them. And these kids were only like about 8 or 9. It was obscene.

It freaks me out when parents yell for their kids to run and grab the candy. It's very irresponsible. I don't think they realize that thier kid can be ran over. :-5

Sometimes parents need to just smile....and keep their mouths shut. Let their kids be kids and enjoy themselves.

Teach the kids by example to look out for the smaller ones, to share, to be a good sport and do this on all the other days that are just mundane.
