What are we all doing for Haloween?
Well since Haloween is on Wednesday i thoight i'd create a thread for our Haloween plans
me and my cousins have arranged to go to a Hunted Graveyard somewhere in town :-2

"Why not just tell people I'm an alien from Mars. Tell them I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight. They'll believe anything you say, because you're a reporter. But if I, Michael Jackson, were to say, 'I'm an alien from Mars and I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight', people would say, 'Oh, man, that Michael Jackson is nuts. He's cracked up. You can't believe a damn word that comes out of his mouth.' " Michael Jackson

What are we all doing for Haloween?
Hi ML!
Well, I'm taking my other two dogs up to their new rescue place and then I'm going to be at the Hallowe'en bash at the Comfort Zone. I also plan to watch some Hallowe'en programs, that's sort of a tradition with me. I don't know if I'm doing a pumpkin this year or not, haven't decided. Then after that, around midnight (the witching hour) I will do my traditional candle ritual.
Anyone who wants to join our Hallowe'en party at Comfort Zone is welcome to! Right now we're having a "costume" contest where the person with the best "costume" (your avatar) wins a prize! Come join us! :yh_pumpkn

Our town has a giant bond fire and serves free hotdogs and cider.

Nothing - closing the doors and going out... :wah: We don't get many little ones so it's not worth the bother. Used to really do it up when our kids where young. I used to dress up as a witch and sit very still outside until they got really close - then Boo.....

the most haunted team were supposed to be broadcasting live from where I live on Halloween and we were hoping to go along and watch proceedings, but because the local paper printed all the details of when and where and made it less than secret, they've brought it forward and they're broadcasting from there now instead *sulk*
so on Halloween I will be at home feeding E numbers to the trick or treaters instead

pagans were the original "witches" in tune with nature and the seasons and performing rituals
I don't know much to be honest, I'm sure Pinky will explain it better.
edit...she beat me to it!

the history ?
All Hallow's Eve is the night before All Saint's Day. The early Christian Church in England created this festival in an attempt to usurp the existing festival of Samhain (as they did with all such festivals) trying to incorporate it into Christian ritual and cover its former symbology.
In this they failed as it is still known as the night when spirits roam and the witches come out to play.
I hope Pinky will correct me but I think it was the night when the world of Farie became open to the world of mankind.
ETA Too late!

but it's the other stuff I don't get . why do children dress as witches and fairies and cartoon characters and go to house to house and demand lollies? And why, if you don't give them what they want they believe they are entitled to throw eggs at your house or damage your property?
As well if you dont cough up the goods when the little devils show up at your door they are legally within their rights to destroy any semblance of personal dignity you might have left in your life.
Best to just get some snickers bars.
