How do you take compliments? I mean do you say "I Know" or just a simple thank you or are you like who can't take a compliment.. I am always sayin' "yeah right or whatever" If I don't say then I am definately thinking it as I quietly say thanks. Also what was the last compliment you received?

Mine was last night - I was told I was a good friend by 3 people and my hubbie told me I was beautiful. Now I have a hard time believing this because 1. how can I be such a good friend over 2,000 miles away & 2. I am not beautiful.. no matter what anyone says.. Jessica Simpson & Jennifer Aniston are beautiful.. I am an average girl.

Why would you not accept the complement that you are beautiful?

Do not limit the definition of beauty as to what Hollywood says it is, there is beauty in everyone. They think you are beautiful, and they do not hesitate to tell you so, that is a wonderful thing.

That was a lovely compliment your husband gave you-and you know he means it.

Hi angel eyes-

I don't receive compliments very often. Very rarely do I get a compliment about my looks, especially now as I'm getting older. When I do get a compliment I can usually tell if a person is sincere or not. When younger I would not take compliments well. Sometimes I would take them to mean that I wasn't so great before, sort of like the person meant to slight me. In the old days I was fairly good at fishing for compliments though, if I was feeling ignored or something. I think it used to drive my childhood friends crazy. I see my daughter do this now with me and call her on it every time. Now I take compliments differently.

Compliments don't really mean much to me unless they are genuine and I think I actually deserve them. It depends on the compliment of course. If I feel a person compliments me in order to encourage me to keep doing what I'm doing, rather than the other way I was doing things, I just say thanks or say something to offset that sentiment. I don't know why those types of compliments bug me so much, or why I read them that way to begin with.

If I get a compliment I just say thanks or acknowledge the giver by not saying something that would make them continue to focus on me. The most recent compliment I received came from someone on fg who pm'd me and said she liked my last post on the 'sickening' thread. She said something to the effect that I was one smart cookie. Since I know I am very inconsistent in the quality of my posts, to tell the truth, I recognized that she was giving me a compliment perhaps to encourage me to not be such a fool in the future by posting half-brained. But on the other hand, I actually liked the post I wrote on that thread, and felt there could be some truth to her compliment so I pm'd back to say,'yes, sometimes I do wear my thinking cap' or some such thing, can't remember the exact words. Thus I hoped to acknowledge that I was aware of how I could come across to people and that I didn't need a compliment to recognize when I had written a twitish response to a topic, that I was hoping she wasn't being patronizing.

Anyway, maybe this went into too much detail. I have hard time controlling my stories. :yh_blush This is a good topic. Made me wonder if good compliment takers are also good compliment givers?
