Church of Bones

Post by RedGlitter »

This isn't going to be everyone's idea of art but in a macabre way I think it's (kind of) neat.

It's a church in Czechoslovakia that has been turned into an artful ossuary.

Yes, macabre, but never the less, very interesting. I suspect there have been many races and peoples in history who have made sculptures out of their dead or perhaps people they have vanquished. An interesting site. Thanks Red :)

Yes, very beautiful! I would only hope if that someone used my bones please first let me sign off on it. I don't know, makes me kinda vulnerable seeing all those skinless bones. What if my bones aren't good enough? :-3 :wah:

Actually the sight of those compositions were extremely restfull to my eyes, the patterns created, the tones were muted and sensitive. I loved the chapel with Jesus.

Thanks!

Thanks you guys. I try.

It is sort of peaceful, now that you mention it, Watermark. I hadn't thought of it like that before but I can see it now. And Woppy, I'm sure you're right about that. Even now there are tribes of people who do things like make bowls out of their ancestors' skulls or utensils from their bones, as a way to capture the dead person's strength. I can't remember now who it is, but there's a people who even sleep using their relatives' skulls as headrests. (I can't exactly call it a pillow!) :)

It reminded me of the Paris Catacombs (seen photos, never been there) but they just have all the bones stacked up in an orderly fashion, not artful like this place. Anyway I'm glad you liked the site! :-6
