Butter with more fat than normal to kill you quicker?

Apparently Plugras is an abbreviation of the French Plus Gras meaning more fat.

As you might have gathered, I don't like butter in the first place :-)

I have never seen that butter, but did a search for it on a French website .. got this

"Vu sur les tablettes des réfrigérateurs à l’épicerie, un beurre dont le nom est « Plugras». Un beurre de type Normandie disponible dans certaines épiceries au Canada. Avec un nom pareil...Pas sûr que je vais en acheter!"

Something you find in the freezer sections of grocery stores (in America), a bit like some Normandy type butters you can get in Canada, but with such an offputting name that the French writer wasn't going to try it.

I had to come here myself when I heard that AussiePam was in yet another butter thread. Someone stop her!! She is like an abusive predator, only the victim is butter or something. Something like that.

Actually the only place I have found it here in America is Oberweis Dairy stores or when they have delivered to my front porch. The chain grocery stores don't carry it. They have something called Lurpak which doesn't taste any better than any other butter. But the Plugra is what I remember the butter tasting like in Germany...just delightful...and the butter at the Ritz Carlton tastes like Plugra... As for more fat, I don't know--I compared the wrappers and the same? The Oberweis website says Plugra-- used by great chefs worldwide...

Interesting, Happylife. I loved the butter from the Black Forest area, and the Normandy butter is well known in France. Delicious. Frankie is just kidding. I'm a pussycat when it comes to butter. I don't understand the American name - maybe they meant 'richer' rather than 'fatter'.

I've never been fond of butter substitutes - if you read the ingredients, most of them contain an awful lot of chemicals. Give me real butter, any day, in moderation. I use olive oil for cooking otherwise. Would not dream of spreading margarine on a baguette. (That's a naughty French pun for you, Frankie.. and quit stalking me, ya hear!!) ... Er...

Most spreadable butters contain non-butter type chemicals too, but I actually found a New Zealand butter (a bit unpatriotic, I know) which is spreadable at room temp, but contains nothing but butter and whipped up air. It tastes great.

I will look for it in the stores. I to went back to butter about a year ago at my Doctors request. She stated that Margarine was the worst subsitute on the planet and harmful.

Real butter is "Real Butter" I like you use the Unsalted Sweet Butter and it actually has less calories than Margarine, and the taste is so much better.

Good for you, Carla! It's the healthiness of a person's diet (and lifestyle) as a whole that counts, not worrying about an idividual item for either cholesterol or calories. And - I guess it's the European in me - but I reckon good food is to be enjoyed and savoured, at leisure, preferably in good company. It's not something you shove unthinkingly in your mouth as you drive or while you're watching television.

in Holland we have the 'normal' butter and cheese but then there is gras boter en gras kaas and thats the butter and cheese made from the milk that is produced when the cows go out in the spring and eat fresh new grass.

It's just got the extra 'YUM' factor that normal stuff hasn't.
