Clyde Died

Our beloved pet vulture Clyde died yesterday, apparently of natural causes,

unlike Boris before him, who was crushed by a semi while having his road kill breakfast of unknown origin. We loved Clyde, but hadn't had him long enough to really get attached to him. It's for that reason that we have decided to have Clyde for our Thanksgiving Dinner instead of the traditional turkey. We found Clyde beneath our cable TV antennae, unconscious, warm, but apparently dead. We put his remains in a nice plastic Hefty Bag and then into our freezer, where he will remain until Thanksgiving morning. I can think of no finer tribute to our beloved pet than to have our family and friends partake of his remains. I know that Clyde would understand.

The poultry plant where my husband and I work has a mascot. Nobody owns him. He glides majesticly above, circles,hovers, and dives. If we are lucky, we get to watch him for a awhile..in awe. He is an American Eagle.

Ofcourse, he is there for the chicken...but we don't care. We are grateful for his presence.

I think this is strange, if he was a beloved pet, he should have a decent burial not a dinner platter.

How do you know Clyde would understand?

Although this wouldnt be a choice I could personally make, Im sure you thought long and hard before you made it and if it feels right for you, go for it.

Just to answer,

yeah sweet potatoes are real and they are the best, try them like baked potatoes i sometimes eat mine with mayonnaise.

Yes, sweet potatoes are my first choice, with brown sugar and butter.

Stuffing will be white minced mice with onion, garlic, basil.

Gravy will be ox blood base with chicken stock

I have two problems with this...

The bird died... do you know it is free of disease?

Humans generally don't eat the meat of carnivores. From what I understand meat eaters don't taste as good.

That's a good point Koan, and would be true if we cooked the bird in the oven, however this bird will be cooked in the Microwave.

The thread's very educational - I'd always thought all birds were omnivores, I had no idea there were any that refused meat when it was in front of them. Does being a carnivore really mean never eating anything but meat? There's so little I know.

eta: I googled cooking a vulture and guess what... all the hits are about filling in IRS returns.

It cannot be a joke, weeder, because Lon knows that if it were he'd be the first ForumGarden Snack in the site's history, that there would be an extraordinary meeting of the entire membership solely in order to consume him in thin slices between delicately cut white bread with the crusts trimmed off.

Okay, how do I know Lon would never eat Clyde? Easy. Because that's beyond redneck. Way beyond Nascar and mobile homes, eating roadkill is just plain hillbilly in a bad way and I know Lon is not the kind of man to partake of such vittles and varmints.

I think youre doing the right thing.

Some serial killers injest their "kill" so as to feel in total control over their prey.

By eating Clyde the two of you will become as one.
