"Why not just tell people I'm an alien from Mars. Tell them I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight. They'll believe anything you say, because you're a reporter. But if I, Michael Jackson, were to say, 'I'm an alien from Mars and I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight', people would say, 'Oh, man, that Michael Jackson is nuts. He's cracked up. You can't believe a damn word that comes out of his mouth.' " Michael Jackson

That's an awkward one and I'm not sure that you can do it directly.

The other problem is that, if you can do it then you have the authority to undo it and it's still down to your willpower not to go there.

There are add-ons you can get that would allow you to exert parental control over yourself but you would have to give control over to someone else to make it effective.

Developing the willpower to stay away from sites that are negatively affecting you is a skill that is worth developing.

skill: an ability that has been acquired by training

training oneself to employ willpower to refrain from an addiction is a skill.

I dont know.

I consider a skill to be a specialized ability. I dont think refraining from buying merchandise on E Bay constitutes a skill.

You are very skilled at ignoring definitions when they don't suit you. :D

Oh cmon !

Would sweeping the garage be considered a skill ?

Grocery shopping ?

You demean the people that have actually trained in earnest to acquire true skills by applying the definition to pancake flippers and people that shovel the snow off the walk.

You have to develop some 'won't power' :)-

I know you can block a site in I.E. don't know how in FF, I just went to the help section but didn't find anything. It's a matter of self control and breaking a habit, get up from the computer and go for a walk, or do something else.

good luck

I assume you're using Windows 2000 or XP - say if that's wrong.

Make sure you have administrative privileges - that's the usual state of affairs but you might not have.

Open Notepad.

File Open and go to c:windowssystem32driversetc

change from TXT files to ALL files and open the file called "hosts"

Add the following lines to the end and save it:

127.0.0.1 ebay.com

127.0.0.1 www.ebay.com

127.0.0.1 ebay.co.uk

127.0.0.1 www.ebay.co.uk

127.0.0.1 paypal.com

127.0.0.1 www.paypal.com

You'll then be unable to browse to those sites. Add any others when you have more to block.
