I spent last week at my mum and dads, mom and I were talking about double standards back when we were growing up,and I asked her"Do you remember you set my curfew so much earlier than my brothers" She then stated "Well honey he was two years older than you" My response was yeah, but you let me stay out with him until 3 am if he was where I was going to be, and I understand this, however, you were always saying midnight was late enough as bad things happen after that? I let her know, nothing different would have happened I just had too have sex earlier in the evening mum! We both cracked up laughing too where she had tears .
What about you, did you have double standards growing up with a sibiling?

Hey, I think I like you:D

yes.
My brothers were always considered to be doing what they said they were doing whereas I was always suspected of sneaking around. The reality was that we were all doing what we ought not have been but I'm the only one who got caught... so I stopped trying to hide it. When they tried to crack down on it I moved out.

Yep, me too!! I remember Mom telling me I couldn't ride my bike across town to my friends house, and my arguement was that my brother (who is 5 years older than me) did it all the time! She said "he is a boy and he is older than you"! Well, unfortunately....I did it anyway...imagine that...me - Rebellious??? :-3:wah:
And when she picked me up from my friends house, because it was TOO far to ride home....she got to say..."I told you so"....so....welll...I lost that one!
My brother used to get upset because his chore was mowing the grass and mine was to make ice cubes...he never understood the equality in that one!:wah:

Ha!! :wah: That just hit me really funny! I don't understand that one either.
I am an only child but I did have my guy cousins around while growing up. Our double standards were sex and equality in the house. It was okay for the guy to go out and get some but the girls were not to do that. We would be easy then if we did. And housework was for women. So were babies. Men took care of the outside and the cars. Fortunately I had a liberal thinking mother and she didn't force that stuff on me yet I can still see it even now in the others sometimes. And where it really started showing when we became adults, was when our family members mecame ill or were dying, it was always the women who stepped in and took care of things. The men seemed to just leave it to us. I saw it happen with my mom and later it happened with me. But now I do the housework and cooking and I expect men to take care of the cars and the home repairs. It's mostly because this is the stuff we each know more about. Put one of our men in the kitchen and they don't know what they're doing. Seriously. And I sure am no mechanic. So it works out. But I still fight the sexual double standard even now. That one makes me livid.
