Trump Trumped

Post by Chookie »

Donald trump has spent the last 4 years trying to obtain permission to build 2 Championship Golf courses, 1 5-star hotel (with 450 rooms), 1000 holiday homes and a gated community - which, I believe, would be the first in Scotland - of 500 private houses.

His logic for building this on the Aberdeenshire coast is that his mother was born on the Isle of Lewis.

Quick geography lesson, Aberdeenshire is on the East coast. Lewis is an island off the west coast.

Dare say she would have objected to them playing golf on a Sunday.

Nearly 1,000 holiday flats were to rise seven or eight storeys high. Thirty-six villas would have lined the boulevards. Selling 500 houses within a gated community would have helped to fund the venture.

We really don't need that kind of community in this country. No doubt he would object to the right to roam and keep the peasants off the beach and want a special law for himself.

Really? You don't need rich people with money to spend to come to Scotland and pump some dollars into the economy?

I am not a huge Trump fan, but his buildings look nice and while he makes a ton of money - things like this also require people to work so it gives back to the local economy. I guess I am missing why anyone would object.

Now - I certainly would understand if he was wanting to build a bunch of projects to fill with drug dealers and theives.

I'm kind of glad to hear that only because he gets away with so much and has too much power, too much money. To much arrogance. I like seeing him get knocked down a notch.

If I made all of the money he has, I might be a bit arrogant too.

Ref - I am not sure what you mean about "what he has gotten away with". So far as I can find - he has never been accused of or charged with a crime of any kind. I would imagine that he takes full advantage of every single tax break he can - much like any other well off citizen of the U.S.

I could see hating him if he was some kind of slum lord or something. But every building that he has built has pumped jobs and money into the local economy. That is never a bad thing.

Like I said - I am not a huge Trump fan. I watched his t.v. show once but his hair gave me nightmares so I never watched again. I just am not understanding what is wrong building something nice that makes money for the locals.

These kind of jobs are OK if that's what you want but they actually do very little to help generate real wealth for the locals.

We don't have gated communities in this country and there is no need for them and why the hell should we tolerate that kind of attitude in our own country? If they don't want to mix with the locals they can sod off back to where they came from. We also have a right to roam so any rich bastard living in a gated community that objects to the riff raff walking along his beach is going to get a very short answer indeed.

Councillor Martin Ford, the committee chairman who used his casting vote to reject the scheme after a 7-7 tie, said: "The golf course can go somewhere else.

"We are having a pistol held to our heads. This is a form of moral blackmail. You can only have it if you sell your soul. And I don't think we should sell our souls. It would be a grotesque mistake to grant it. There would be no way back."

The Trump Organisation team, sitting in the front row of the public seating area in the committee room, looked completely crestfallen as the final vote was taken.

The decision also delighted Michael Forbes, 55, a local resident who refused to sell Mr Trump his 23 acres of land on the edge of the scheme.

Mr Trump said on his last visit to Aberdeen that the small farm was an eyesore, and Mr Forbes responded by telling him to "stick his money".

Well - nobody mentioned protected land or windmills for energy in the original post. If I had known that, I would have agreed with you.

As for the rest of it, however.

I live in an area where jobs (even fast food jobs) are hard to come by and the unemployment rate is outrageous. The home forclosure rate is up 94% over last year. It would be fabulous if someone were to come here and spend this kind of money to build this kind of facility. Between the jobs it would create in the actual building, the jobs that would become available working at the different facilities would most certainly help out the local economy. Might not make the locals rich, but at least they would be able to feed their families and keep their houses.

I have never been to Scotland, so I have no idea about whether or not you have gated communities. We have some around here and the people who live in them can often be found at the local grocery store or whatever. The gates are more to keep people walking off with their stuff.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that.

No-one in Scotland need be unable to feed their family or lose their house. There are safeguards in place for those who lose their jobs.

We don't have gated communities, we don't want them, we won't have have them.

Anyone who tries to stop us walking wherever the hell we want is in deep sh*t.
