NOMADS RATING :
I finally got around to this one.
It didnt live up to my expectations.
The plot itself was uplifting and motivational but lackluster in its delivery.
I couldnt shake the feeling I was watching a Lifetime Channel made for tv movie.
None the less I hope Will Smith keeps trying, he will get better as he stretches his craft.

I thought this was a fantastic movie :-6
The Pursuit of Happyness
Went to see it based on movie ads seen at other movies. Took the daughter based on those previews.
Will never make that mistake again!:(
Did not enjoy it at all, primarily because I sat there feeling misled.

Who are they to protest me? Who are they? Unless they've been me and been there and know what the hell they're yelling about!

The previews that we had seen(granted they were before other childrens movies) were all cute, funny and feel good moments.
Those ended up being (just about) the only cute, funny or feel good moments in the movie.

The Pursuit of Happyness
It seemed to me that the situation with the mother was dealt with in a rather wishy washy way. They make it look like she was leaving because she lost faith in her husband and couldn't hack living on the edge of poverty but that she loved her son. Then she never comes back and never asks for him to visit her.
Being that it is based on a true story, I was left with the impression that the guy didn't want to trash his son's mother but didn't want to alter what happened in real life. I thought it very decent of him to treat her kindly like that but it also stands out as a very loose end to the story. Did she actually fight harder for the kid or did she just decide she wasn't a good mother? I couldn't make sense of her actions and, even though it's not the main story there, it was the reason a child was left homeless. I understand what he was saying about his determination not to be parted from the son but was the kid really better off being homeless?
I enjoyed the film a lot. You have to be in the right mood to watch it though. I was.

I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't buy the DVD and watch it again. The company I had was better than the movie and was all I was really worried about. It was my first night out with Muse and her son other than Joanie's. Will Smith's son did a nice job and is adorable; of course with the genetics he has I doubt he could be anything less.
I'd give it two and a half, but not three.
