Party on my doorstep

Post by koan »

There is a big festival happening right outside my house. They have the streets closed off, loudspeakers and bands...the whole works. I expect a parade soon. Should I go out and see what they are celebrating? It is intimidating to walk outside and have hundreds of people look at you as you leave your house.

Not so much paranoid. I just don't like large crowds. I decided to see what was going on. I still don't really know. Community festival. I lucked out and got the Blues Brothers singing at the corner by my house. The firefighter's brass band is about two blocks down. The signs all say "Hats Off Sale" in front of the stores. Guess I'll have to break down and read the newspaper. :o

Turns out it is a big "appreciation day" called Hats Off. The local merchants arrange this every year in appreciation of their customers. Kind of cool. The crowds overwhelmed me quickly though and I ran back to the relative safety of my home. I'm not a big consumer anyway. I'll have to get used to this city living thing. If I have my choice once my daughter is grown, I'll be a hermit in the mountains somewhere. With my computer of course.

It was nicely organized. There were vintage cars on display all down the street, live bands, face painting, and lots of outdoor cooking. I know where you're coming from, buttercup. It was kind of fun seeing people dancing around at the gas station but I had to come home quickly. Too many line ups and party balloons.

Koan, I hope it`s a great free event that you can go to and enjoy yourself. That said, I am SO like you in that I (generally) hate crowds, etc

yes, my husband cannot handle crowds. you have people walking into you, kids screaming, the rest rooms are 3 miles away, weirdo's out of the woodwork haven't bathed in a year, no good. i don't mind taking in the views he gets annoyed, and comments about people, like oh my god did you see how fat that young girl was? or i can't take gay guys, oh well, it think they are funny as hell. :-6 i guess people who work really hard and use no meds to cope really know what they want --- PEACE & QUIET. much better.
