What are your favorite Christmas symbols?

Anything shiny and bright. I love Christmas lights, I think they should stay up all year.

One of my earliest memories that always really made it Christmas for me

were a pair of holly earrings my mom wore. They were each a dark green

holly leaf with 2 little red holly berries on them. Even as a really little

girl, when I saw my mom get out and start wearing her holly earrings,

I knew it meant Christmas.

At some point over the years, one earring was lost. I have the other one,

the dark green has faded to a sort of muddy brown, but I still get it out

and sit it on a ledge in my bathroom. It still carries a lot of the same

magic it once did.

lanterns to light the way (luminarias where I'm from, some call them something else starting with the 'F' too lazy to google),

sound of bells or the sight of a Christmas bell,

St. Nickolaus-sp? is much more handsome than Santa Claus imo,

the cross, though I think most associate the cross with Easter,

holly and mistletoe,

snow and cold weather, though I could probably find the Palm tree and warm weather meaningful too,

and probably most of all the nativity scene. I've seen so many wonderful different nativities. Nativities from different cultures, I need to start collecting them. But I don't want to be a one season collector, dragging them out every year would get to be such a chore.
