What groups, clubs or organizations have you belonged to in the past and which do you belong to now?? Which would you like to be part of in the future?
My past:
Brownies (ok, that's WAY in the past! Ha!)
Indian Maidens
Job's Daughters Bethel 23
Greenpeace
ASPCA
PETA
World Wildlife Fund
Sierra Club
Present:
ASPCA
Future:
I would like to join the Red Hat Society when I hit the right age. I've also considered Eastern Star or the Rebekahs and I plan to join my local artists' guild in the next couple years.
Well I joined the Brownies at the tender age of 8 yrs old, attended about 4 meetings, they didn't seem interested in allowing me to do 'badge work' and all they seemed to do was dance round a flippin toadstool and play silly childish games ! Remember I was 8 yrs old at that time, and I thought it was so childish ! Well I wanted to learn stuff and do 'proper' things that they did in the scout movement. I left, very disappointed.
I was in my 'old scholars association' where I played hockey for the team.
I joined the WRN (Womens Royal Navy) reserve and trained as a telegraphist - morse code. With a view to joining the Royal Navy. I was asked to leave, because of a difference of opinion with one of the WRN officers - she was a cow, didn't like me from the start and engineered a situation causing me to have to leave. grrrrr
Maray Players, - an amateur dramatics group in our area, which put on plays and variety shows. Stayed a couple of years, then 'the gaffer' died and the group finished.
RNLI - Lifeboat Institute, funded totally by voluntary donations. Lifeboats manned by volunteer crews drawn from all walks of life. You want to see 'brave' just look at what these guys do - and they are on-call 24/7.
Vale of Belvoir Protection Group - Formed to stop the unnecessary deep mining of coal in the Vale of Belvoir in Leicestershire/Lincolnshire in the East Midlands of England. We won the day, forced a public enquiry which found for the protestors and threw out the application!
Greenpeace - always wished I could have been one of the 'activists' !
Grantham Canal Restoration Society - Am a life member, and just finished a stint
as Hon. Sec. - my husband has just finished a stint as the Chairman.
RSPCA - Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - also funded totally by voluntary donations. (we have had 5 dogs in our lives so far, and all but the first one have been a 'rescue' dog from the RSPCA - our present dog 'Rex' is a German Shepherd, he was 8 yrs old when we 'adopted' him nearly three years ago).
If I had my time again, I would make big efforts to make sure I became an 'activist' on the 'front-line' of Greenpeace. I am a rebel at heart !!
groups wouldn't suit me, I don't like being commited to anything ....I'm a hippie, gypsy, free spirit, non-conformist....I like doing my own thang. :-6
Gosh, I belong to Historical Associations and Poetry Groups. I used to belong to Red Hatters, I really enjoyed them alot. But I can only venture out about once every other month or so, and I had to make a choice. I kept the poetry group, it is fun.
