Cell Phones Fluff

Post by Lon »

Much of the Cell Phone conversations that I over hear seems to be FLUFF, very much like some of the postings on FG. While some males are guilty of meaningless conversation, I think it's mostly females that are into it. Males seem to use the cell to tell lies about where they are and what they are doing. "Yeah baby, I'm still at the office" (He's in a bar), "I'm talking here with Bill" (He's talking to a gal on the next barstool).

What's with this need to be in constant and everlasting communication? How much of this conversation is necessary or even beneficial?

Do I have a cell? Yep----------a prepaid 25Cent per minute that I put $25 into on September 1st. I still have $18.50 left.

Texting?--------------Don't get me started on that one.

Apparently it's the norm for teenage girls to spend much of their time talking about the quality of their cell phone signal. This will extend to answering the phone and talking about how clearly they can hear one another for most of the opening convo.

As long as they don't say "gag me with a spoon" they're doing better than teens of my generation.

I used to use text messaging a lot. On film sets, we can't use our phones most of the day but we can send and receive texts. I'd tell you the nature of my texting but I'm pretty sure it'd make you blush, Lon.

people talking on cell phones in the grocery store drive me insane! Trying to steer a cart with one hand, walking really slow, taking up the whole aisle oblivious to everyone else while they stand there and have a conversation, talking loudly about what flavor cereal they should buy, etc.

hang the f up and do your shopping! :-5

you and others who complain about fluff have no problem starting or posting in fluffy threads. You can't have it both ways. :D

speaking of which, why haven't we ever discussed the regenerative properties of the human liver. I have always found that fascinating. :)

All I can say is... who cares? What do I care if someone wants to yack away on their cell phone in the middle of the grocery store? I don't. They don't care if they look and sound foolish, so why should I?

I think the question here shouldn't be "why do other people do that?" but instead "why do I give such a crap that I need to ask?"

I love the quote "what you hate in others you also hate in yourself." Very fitting for this conversation, I should think.

Wow. Lon and I don't always agree on the same things but what's wrong with him stating his opinion about this? Why give him flack for it? I agree on this issue. Especially in the stores.

One time in Walmart I saw this little kid yelling "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!" The mom said "SHH! I'm on the phone!!

Some fluff is fun, some is insipid and we all draw our own notions as to which is which. There's nothing wrong with stating what we do and don't like.

Yeah, that bugs me too... I've seen people (almost always men) wandering in a dazed and confused manner while wifey is home instructing him to get the acidophilus milk and then going into a long conversation why this is better than skim milk etc while the dumbass is blocking the entire area with his cart!

Or... he's wandering up and down the video store aisles, reading off the boxes so wifey can decide which movie sounds best. Yeesh!

I don't think I'd have given as much flack if I hadn't read this thread right after reading another one of his threads were he basically stated how irritating useless chit chat is.

Sorry for being so harsh Lon, but I read more posts from you about what you don't like about other people versus what you do like. But, to each his own, and I do understand that sometimes we need to blow off steam about what irritates us. I guess it irritates me when people talk badly of others and only good about themselves!!

Well that's just good manners. I was just thinking "Lady, you're in the store, you shouldn't even be on the phone"! :wah:
