CINCINNATI — A white suburban Cincinnati man accused of shouting a racial slur at a group of black children and threatening to shoot them has been ordered to spend more time with black children as part of his sentence.
Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge Brad Greenberg ordered 36-year-old Michael Fluegeman of Mount Healthy to perform 100 hours of community service at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati or a similar organization.
A police report shows Fluegeman threatened a group of children in October when they were near his yard and he believed they had damaged his property.
He originally was charged with misdemeanor aggravated menacing but pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct.
Comments anyone? The reason I don't think this is a good idea is because kids can be very intuitive...if this guy's attitude toward black people is that bad, then those kids are going to pick up on it.

was it racially motivated though? He believed they had damaged his property and swore at them, he was angry.
if you damage some of my property and i swear at you, and say "you no good redglitter, get away from here!"does that make me hate all people who might be called redglitter, or only those who damage my property?

Good question, Lemon. But if you called me redglitter, that would be "name" yet if you called me cracker or honkey, that would be a racial slur. Probably the guy called them "n.igger" or something like that as the first thing he saw was that the kids were black. So I don't know, Lemon, but it's a good question. I just hope he doesn't end up making these kids he has to work with feel bad.

i have to be careful what i say here, because i am not racist and i abhore racism in any context, but i do feel kind of sorry for the guy.
Just maybe he wasn't educated as to diversity, equality, all the buzzwords we know, and we know why they exist.(i don't know his background but maybe he didnt know any better) - in which case he should be pitied and educated, and yes, be able to spend time with the people he was denigrating in order to understand that they re just like him, just in a different skin.
Also, without being funny about it, if you are very very angry, you do sometimes say things which you might not otherwise say.

Yes, I say a lot of terrible things when angry. I don't understand why this guy was brought up on any charges except for the fact that our PC society continues to believe in the concept of "hate speech" and that hate is a "crime." I don't buy that. Yelling at these kids could be called rude behavior and unnecessary but I think to stick this guy in community service because of this is ridiculous. What it says (to me) is "you have to think like us and talk like us or we'll make it a crime."

anyway, do we know for sure that he did say the word?
if the kids were as mischevious as he says, they could have gone home and claimed that he said that for the dramaticness of it all.

Who are they to protest me? Who are they? Unless they've been me and been there and know what the hell they're yelling about!

Children or TEENS teens can be trouble!!! I know I have one:wah:
I agree with snooze and Lemon and mint. Was it provoked, etc
However placing him with children vs. teens is a big difference
