Because you never know when you'll need it.
I learned about 20 years ago, and this morning in the Costco parking
lot was the first time I've had to use it.

So you were somebody's angel today.
I also learned CPR years ago, and yes, it is a good thing to know.

Thank you, Val for being someones hero, especially at this time of year. :-4
I go to class nearly every year. It's a must at our work.
Thank goodness I, myself, have never had to do it but I've done it many times over the phone.

I almost wasn't. My pickup was not acting right, like it kept wanting to
cut out, and I had called DH to come help me. If my pickup had
started right up, I wouldn't have been there.
I had help, there were eventually 2 off duty firefighters there, one
actually had a mask with him and did respirations while I did chest
compressions.

See....you were meant to be there. I firmly believe things happen for a reason. :-6

Good for you Valerie - you are a hero today. If you had not been there maybe there would have been some sad people this Christmas. :-4
I am a fully trained First Aider, and have also had to administer CPR (on my daughter :-1). I have a mask on my key-chain ready to help at anytime.
My hubby and I did CPR on our 3 yr old GSD - its worth knowing how to do this too. Hubby massaged his heart and I gave mouth to nose. Together, with step by step guidance from our vet, on the telephone, we managed to bring him back to see a few more months. :-4
Heart scans showed he had a swollen heart, he was on medication, but suffered a fatal heart attack - sadly we tried again but this time he was gone :-1

Excellent Val you saved a life today. CPR is one of the most improtant thing anyone can do when someone is in need. Your the first responder and you administering CPR may save a life. I get my certificate renewed every year. I also have a mask in my car if necessary.
Folks learn CPR you may save someone dear to you some day with this simple procedure.

I'm going to take a refresher course soon.
I don't know if I did save his life. I tried to get something from the
fire department this afternoon, but due to the HIPAA lawas, they
can't tell me anything. So I guess I'll be watchting the newspaper
the next few days.

Well done Val it's a really hard and horrible thing to have to do.
My husband and I did it for a neighbour a few years ago, sadly his heart attack was too massive for him to survive but it was a comfort to his wife to know that people tried.
