Christmas Midnight Eucharist

Post by theia »

I'm just watching the service, which is being held in Worcester Cathedral, the city in which I was born and lived for 13 years. It's quite beautiful. I hope they sing Once in Royal David's city where a choirboy begins the first verse on his own...that'll make me cry.

Yes, it is, Lemon...I think that it was a different service when the Once in Royal carol was sang. I can remember that the choirboy would be at the back of the cathedral which was lit mainly by candles.

it goes on for another hour, in the one i remember, when they sang the first verse, they dimmed the lights and the choirboy went to the spot, so maybe they can still do that.

When I was young, some of our school services were held there. And one of our favourite out of school activities was to climb the tower...I don't think it's allowed nowadays!! But it's a stunning cathedral, by the River Severn
