Here's something I'm positive hasn't been discussed here before. I came across this issue last night.

Is it appropriate or proper for adults to kiss their children on the lips? I know that seems a silly question but a lot of people think it's inappropriate, like for fathers to kiss daughters or mothers to sons. At what age should it stop if any?

It's a western thing. I still kiss my kids AND my parents. It's a greeting and a parting. A gesture of affection. New Zealand and Alaska have the nose thing.

Totally different from the absolute snogs I share with my spouse. :yh_bigsmi Now it would be a bit wrong to kiss my kids OR my parents like that! LOL!

It is not something i would want done to me nor would i wish to di it to my own relations.

however if both parties know it is an innocent sign of affection i see no problem with it.

There is a total difference in the affection of ones relatives and ones lover. And thinking any different is a bit nauseating. I feel sorry for anyone who is afraid of kissing their babies! Makes for a bunch of cold and unaffectionate people!

I think its just cultural or varies from family to family.

My family often kiss on the lips, Theres no innapropriate intentions, so therefore i wouldnt say there was anything innapropriate about it.

My partner on the other hand is French and was brought up to kiss on the cheeks unless its your boyfriend/girlfriend/partner, so he always thought it weird when my mum or my nana went to kiss him on the lips, but hes got used to it now. My 6 year old kisses on the lips. I dont think its innapropriate - but its a bit sloppy

Oh I don't know that I'd go that far, Raven. My parents always kissed me on the cheek and I never felt they were cold or unaffectionate. Not at all.

It' s not something I would choose to do myself but I wouldn't think twice about it unless I saw a father kissing his teenaged daughter like that. That would bother me.

The fact that we see this as worthy of discussion shows how far we've sunk as a society.

I just visited my sister. All her gradkids and kids kiss her and grandpa on the lips. I'm a virtual stranger and still got hugs from all and a kiss on the cheek from most, just because I'm family.

Family shouldn't have to be on guard.

Mind you, having said that, I can totally understand NOT wanting to be touched or kissed if you have pervy relatives in your family. Fact of the matter is, that sort of thing has been going on in peoples families forever.

It depends on the age I think, I kiss my daughters on the cheek. I think they would be grossed out if I kissed them on the lips.

As a general rule though, I don't really know, just as long as you're not slipping in the tongue.:wah:

Modern Britain, a place where parents are afraid to take photos of their own babies naked in the bath or playing, lest the developer call the police to the to investigate.

Oh, that is sad lemon. :(

Kissing children-I guess it is the family custom how they kiss each other. We hug and kiss alot, but not usually on the lips.

that is sad, some of my most favorite pics are of my babies in the tub!!

I had to think about it....yes I do kiss my boys on the lips....well, not recently....the 18 and 13 year old are good to get a hug from, but my baby (11) gets kisses, he wipes them off of course, cause its a fun thing we do....:-4

I remember when I was growing up, My grandmother (whom I wasn't very close to) used to go to kiss me and I'd turn my head, I would see her kiss other family members (women) right on the lips...and thought ...ooops....:p Oh well....

I have had friends through the years that are very "kissy" and I have kissed women on the lips, NO tongue involved, just friend kisses, as well as men...its a friendly/love peck....Me likey....:-4

All our family kiss on the lips. There is a difference between a peck on the lips and a real kiss. I think it is a sad thing that we even have to discuss it. I love all my children dearly, a mothers love, and its awful to think that kissing on the lips is even thought of as inproper. Its getting to be a sad old world. :(

Im with you 100%

I love kissing my kids, my mother, father, brother, all my family and I do it in the knowledge that its an act of love and a sign of my affection.....I find it weird people would question it to be honest.

I'm with Mike on it being an age thing. My son (7) has gotten to where he won't kiss his nana, memaw, or his dad on the lips. He kisses them on the cheeks. I still get kisses on the lips, but I'm his momma! (Yes he's still a momma's boy) My daughter (4) will still give kisses on the lips.

It is a bizarre question isn't it?

I'm surprised anyone has even responded!
