Hospital Charges

In England when you are in hospital you have to pay for telly now!! I thnk its £3.50 a day which adds up to a lot if you are in hospital for quite a while:mad: Its a screen on a long arm above your bed that you can move to suit you. theres also a telephone on there which costs a fortune, but the radio and internet are free:-2 yes you can go online for free. Personally i would just listen to the radio and go online:D can do without telly easily.

bloomin car parking charges get me.........Bloody emergency....race to hospital , dont call out ambulance BUT make sure you have money to pay for car park otherwise you get fined:-5:-5:-5:-5:-5

Here the TV is free, they charge for cable and phone.

If a person is really ill, they don't use any of those services anyway. I never got them for my husband when he was ill, he didn't know what was on TV.

Now, the remote is always in his hand.....................:wah:

we used to have tv free, but had to use payphones in corridors:wah:mind it was only the same charge as normal payphone so was ok.

Also.. there is no reason why you cant have your mobile on you know

they say it causes interference, but when my mother in law was in the hospice they said,, no .... no reason have your mobile on and talk on it all day if you llike

Yes, parking is outrageous. It cost me $5-7 a day when he was in the hospital, and a two block work too through a horrid urban center.

Yea!! how comes you can get em for free and we have to pay nearly seven quid!!:-5 and somthing i was gewtting evry 3 months i found i can get at the chemist 2 quid cheaper:mad:

when i go for my regular checks it is £2.50 after 30 minutes - of course you are never in and out in half an hour.

But what was good, when i was ill once, no bus, middle of night, so drove myself, as had no money for taxi, not thinking they were going to admit me, but they did, iI had to stay in for a week, panicked, at the thought of how much a week's parking would be, they waved the fee.

40 days or something like that. It was alot of money, and I had to go daily, he was coming out of a coma. I would read to him for hours, the nurses thought I was looney. I read out of his favorite old history book, read through the life of Julius Caesar, got to Augustus, and half way through he started to wake up. Took about 2-3 weeks or so.

I always felt sorry for the guy in the bed next to him. He was in a coma too, but I wondered, subliminally, what he must have thought of it. Or what he would say when he woke up. He never did while my husband was there.

me too, i only discovered that when a friendly chemist told me that a drug with a different name was the same as the prescription drug and cheaper.

Here in the US on some floors your Cell Phones can't be turned on or used. Usually because of the equipment. Which in some cases is good as it will kill your batteries in a second.

You did well chonsigirl, that is what they say needs to be done, i expect you did the guy in the next bed some good as well.

thats' seven quid each item - often i have a prescription for 3 items, thats £20 odd quid a time.

We cant have the mobile on anywhere at all in our hospitals,, im sure its just so you have to use their services which are very expensive.:sneaky:

Hiya Kaz,

My mum was in hospital for several weeks last year and it cost us a small fortune for her to watch tv and the cost of her using the phone gave me palpitations!

I have to go into hospital soon and I definately will not be watching telly, to be honest i'd much prefer a good book.:yh_glasse

i have had hospital stays where tvs have been on really loud when you just want to sleep.

Hositals are such noisy places anyway and impossible to sleep much.

I was really lucky with my emergency admission last time, there were no beds in the main wards so i got put in the day centre, with only a few of us, no noise as it was off the main hospital and real attention from the nursing staff.Even though the day centre is not meant to be used for overnight stays.

In reality its a little bit of both. Sure they want you to buy their services. Cells do interfer with Hospital equipment so an NO policy is probably the safest way to go. The only areas I know that they are allowed on are in the business offices, engineering, and some of the clinics the rest of the areas are a NO, NO.

Wow, i think they should take in to consideration how long a petient is in hospital for. It can be really costly and just adds to the stress. Impleased your husband got better though:-4 I bet the bloke n the next bed was thinking omg why dont she read the bloomin sports page :wah:

Yep, but when my mum in law was in the hospice they said it was ok, and they had a lot of the same equipment there, its the same as a hospital, but just more personal.

You are correct. They do allow certain staff in certain areas to carry on and have it on. They are few and far between. Doctors can, and certain key staff people.

Having said that no one can have a Cell Phone on if your in surgery, on a critical care floor etc.

I work for the NHS and in North Wales we have lots of patients who depending on where they live enter the cheshire boundary or shropshire etc...The gp is welsh registered and has agreed to look after these people under his surgery even though their postcode lands them in England, sometimes its just the side of the road you live on.......bloody daft and a lot of work sometimes
