You guys won't believe this!!!!!

Post by nvalleyvee »

I got an IM from a man who researches military plane crashes. I had posted on the Veteran's network for families of dead military servicemen - with my same nvalleyvee for info about my DAD. I got an IM from this man through FG. He had all the dates, names and particulars of the the incident correct. He gave me lots of info and I hope to talk to him more. I think he googled my nvalleyvee and saw me hereat FG because he asked if I was the daughter who had been asking about her DAD. He gave all the info first.

I am thrilled and in tears. Thank you FG for being a conduit to the past.

WOOHOOO:-6

OK - so now this man knows more about my Dad's death and the events surrounding it than I ever did. He seemed a little bit strange when he said he hiked up to the crash site and took pictures. I am still waiting for him to send me the original documents he has. I sent him a pic of my Dad because he wanted it for his crash file. He says he researches military plane crashes as a hobby. I am very greatful for the info BUT I got a funny feeling about it. Maybe it seems like an invasion of privacy. He seems very sincere. He stopped short of giving me the reason for the crash - maybe afraid I'd been lied to all my life. The reason was pilot error----Dad was hot dogging in a box canyon and was caught in a down draught.

Should I be concerned or just greatful this man has mad research skills?

oh boy not sure i should put this here because people will not understand what POW's go through .

I only knew a little about my grandfather and of his time in changi (Japanese prisoner of war camp) I knew some of the things they made him do and others and it was dispicable. And in the end my grandfather was never the same. he was a medic when singapore fell and never picked up a gun . But something happened in the camp that we were never told about until after his death.

There was an American in the camp that was stealing from the Japs . One day they were lined up and told to own up who was doing it. No one owned up but everyone knew who it was because he had his own little black market going on..........(that's just not cricket in a camp when others are starving) I was told this American was not liked. Anyway the japs decided to pick out someone who would take the blame they picked an Australian and a Brit. You can imagine th eneraged feelings. well it seems my granfather was more enraged than most and he and a couple of others killed the american and presented his body to the Japs and asked for the bodies of their soldiers back so they could bury them. In a way it's better that he was killed this way and not the way the Japs killed the other two.

Nasty stuff .................My grandfather was 6"2 when he went to war he came back on a stretcher weighing in a 6 stone.

nvalleyvee it's hard to understand but that's how things happen and at least your father died having fun so to speak and not half scared to death. I dont' no if that's right or if there really is a bright side to your circumstances but at least you know .

I'd be thankful for people like this man. I was thankful to the person who probably told more about my grandfather than he told anybody he had many scares and basically went insane in the end.

You wrenched my heart...........what a good thread your thoughts and feelings would make. It honors all of our ancestors who suffered and died in the military. Thank you so much for this post......:-4
