Yes, with the writer's strike and the golden globes and all that its the season when we all slag off how bad Hollywood films are, but wait, are they really that bad? Undoubtedly there are a lot of very bad movies churned out of Tinsel Town, but then there are also a lot of genuine 100 percent classics, as well as they odd masterpiece. Here are a few Hollywood movies from the past few decades.

So I have only gone back to about 1980 there. Now you may not like all these movies, or perhaps you could argue for your personal favorites, and of course some are better than others etc etc, but I think most people would agree that they represent a very high level of film making.

I agree Galbally. That's a good representative list, I think. There are a lot of good movies that have gone directly to video too, without hitting the Big Screen. I'm real picky about the movies I like, but I would have to agree that Hollywood hasn't done too badly.

Now would be good time to air those classic black and white movies and TV reruns. Too many to name.

I like many of the movies you've listed and could add more to the list.
I heard that they were going to be doing some editing on Dexter and showing the first season on NBC ( I think that's parent company that owns Showtime). Hubby sais they'll have to cut the sister completely out. :-3
