Gas station food

Its late when I leave work. Im always starving. By the time I get home to my town, 40 miles north of my new career location..... The streets are rolled in. Nothing to eat. Tonite I ate something that is so beneath me, I cant even bear to look at myself. It was one of those brown, greasy logs. Found in gas stations, along with the cold, fat hot dogs. They call it a cheeseburger. You put it on a bun with the dirty tongs that are hanging on the front of the stainless steel rotisserie. I ate it because I was desperate, but also it was an excuse to let my truck warm up at the gas pumps, since its about 20 degrees outside. Im home now, Just washed the brown log down with about an inch of vodka with cranberry juice. Actually, it didnt taste bad, but as I write whatever IT was is probably poisoning my entire circulatory system. Hopefully Ill wake up tomorrow morning. Id hate for that whatever it really was, to be my last meal. God, i just hope no one saw me.:wah:

Weeder, that was too funny. I am the same way, actually I've NEVER been as brave as you were tonight. When I saw the title I thought of something that's been going through my mind for the last few weeks....about 8-9 years ago, when Wa-Wa was new in town, I wanted to try their subs and there was a guy installing our carpet on a sat. I asked the hubby (at the time) to go get us subs from Wa-Wa. I offerred to buy the carpet dude lunch, and he looked at me as if her were Prince Charles and said "I don't eat food from a gas station".....I thought....well either do I....this is Wa-Wa.....completely different situation!!

There are two Wa-Wa's with in a 5 mile radius of my office, and you guessed it....I eat food from a gas station every once in a while....they have really good coffee too!!

My cousin visited from PA right after the Wa-Wa's was new to our area and she had never heard of them, and called it "Wizzy's"....she laughed and said "I wizzy at the wa-wa":yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl

I’ll bet half the people who stop at those places would love something healthy to eat. It absolutely baffles me that they don’t have anything to offer that isn’t akin to committing suicide. I don’t know how many times I’ve purchased a stale blueberry muffin just to fill the gnawing void.:yh_sick

I cant imagine what the log is made of, but it was a better choice than the

chips with the orange glue,and the simmering dog food, in the smeared stainless steel pots. Seven Eleven actually has a virtual smorgasboard of grab and go food, Everything from fruit, to yogurt, to cheese. And truthfully, I really do like a 7 eleven hot dog now and then. Something I miss about New York is the souvlaki and hot dogs with sourkraut that the street vendors sell. We called it dirty water food, because one always try not to wonder.." Where do those guys wash their hands? " The food in the gas stations in England was incredible. What do you call that company that has the food consession? Incredibly delicious pastry. I had a chocolate croissant in the car that I remember to this day.

Oh yes, I remember that...I think it was a motorway service station...Betty will probably remember where it was, and maybe even the company.

But please don't "wonder" further about some of the foodstuff sold in the street (yours and ours)...I was watching a television programme the other night about what happens to chicken carcasses and all the bits of a chicken you just wouldn't eat. There was mention of a sort of grinding machine...I'll say no more

Yes, you're right, Weeder, M and S do have some. We bought M and S sandwiches when leaving Raven and Voodoo's, and that was a petrol station. But I have a feeling that the chocolate thing was in another place en route home, and wasn't M and S. But having been wrong once already here, I could well manage twice! :-5

The gas station we stopped at was when I began having the hallucinations.... later realized from the jet lag... Im in the back seat, eating my croissant... 3000 miles from home... with two new friends Ive just met.. sitting on the WRONG side of the car... driving on the WRONG side of the road. And I began to think... nah... this isnt real. :wah: What a great adventure, and the first of many laughs. Ill be back. And I am definately going to visit the Spencer and Marks gas stations for pastry. It would really be something if our gas stations had the food consessions that yours do. England takes much better care for the comfort of her citizens.

I eat the Redhot Beef and Bean burritos all the time. I think they are manufactured by the same company that makes Pepto-Bismal..:wah:

Hey now, as a frequent gas station food diner, those burritos are the supreme of gas station munchies. I like the purple hot dogs they serve too.

Keep some Granola Bars or Fruit Bars in your glove compartment. They are pretty good for killing hunger pangs, and healthier.

I don't remember the garage near Ravens as being M & S

I do recall stopping off at an M & S later in the day though, did we call in at Exeter services as well?

I've done four or five long trips since then Theia with lots of stops, they all look the same after a while! :wah:
