See these things?

Among other colorful names, they're "Truck Testicles." Okay, why you'd want these on your trailer hitch is beyond me BUT....do we have to outlaw everything that offends us? In the following article he didn't know how to explain what they were to the little girl. Uh...."honey, they're rubber testicles hanging off a truck" might have worked.

Virginia Lawmaker Seeks to Ban Replica Testicles on Trailer Hitches

Tuesday, January 15, 2008

RICHMOND, Va. — It's one thing to dangle fuzzy dice from a rear view mirror, but decorating a trailer hitch with a large pair of rubber testicles might be a bit much in Virginia.

State Del. Lionel Spruill introduced a bill Tuesday to ban displaying replicas of human genitalia on vehicles, calling it a safety issue because it could distract other drivers.

Under his measure, displaying the ornamentation on a motor vehicle would be a misdemeanor punishable by a maximum fine of $250.

He said the idea came from a constituent whose young daughter spotted an example of the trail hitch adornment and asked her father to explain it.

"'I didn't know what to tell her,"' Spruill said the constituent told him before Spruill vowed to stop such displays.

"I said, 'Sir, I'm going to be a laughingstock, but I'm going to do it,"' he said.

The Virginia General Assembly has some experience with offbeat bills. Three years ago, it drew widespread attention with an unsuccessful effort to outlaw baggy pants worn so low they expose underwear.

Spruill, 61, said the indignity of the "droopy drawers" debate wouldn't deter him. He said he won't hesitate to bring a set of $24.95 trailer testicles with him for a legislative show-and-tell.

"I'm going to do it," Spruill told a handful of reporters after Tuesday's House session adjourned. "I'm going to bring them out here and show them to you till they tell me to stop."

I have to admit that's funny! :wah:

I think It would be even funnier if it was a woman driving.:yh_rotfl

Maybe in our younger years, I would have bought one for our truck.:p

Now that I have a 6 year old daughter, I wouldn't dare.

I haven't seen them around here yet. My husband has. If she would ask what they are. I'll just tell her...I don't know, I guess they help hold the chain on. ;)

Then change the subject.

I usually play dumb when she asks about things I don't want to give her the real answers to.:D

If that's the most important thing they have to worry about in Virginia, they're pretty darn lucky.

A dissenting voice.....

Why would you want to dangle them out for all to see ?

Is it just to be funny ?

Would you choose the same sort of joke to tell a group of elderly old ladies that you share with your pals in the pub ?

Is there no public decency laws on the staute books already ?

Daddy: *shrugs* "Aono"

Hi Bruv! Long time no see!

Well *I* wouldn't want them and I think they're stupid but I'm not in favor of too much legislation regarding freedom and self expression. I'd rather have to look at those knowing the person sporting them was free to do so, tacky as I think they are. :)

Well thankyou for remembering me.....I do pop in sometimes.

There is freedom and there is freedom.....

I am a hairy ar*ed male who can eff and curse with the best, or worse of them. I have been known to dangle my gonads in the face of a female.....or two.....nothing wrong with that......I enjoy rude crude and basic humour (spelt correctly)

I didn't do it on Main street.....lapsing into american speak thar.....the "High street" for the anglos here.

I would defend with my life the right to do your own thang, dangle when dangling is appropriate......

I would also defend the right of my aged mother NOT to be affronted by some inappropriate *joke* while she was going about her weekly shopping.....

Or that children are not brought too rapidly into the brash adult world.

Freedom has responsibilities too......

Would you dangle your "bits" RedGlitter....for a laugh ?

Nope, you wouldn't be seeing mine on public display, Bruv, because I don't find that stuff humorous or classy. And I do understand what you're saying about not wanting your mom or your child to have to see that. On that hand, I agree with you. What I'm saying though is that I think that stuff should fall under basic human decency which (in my opinion) should be mandated by a person's own personal code and not by the law. Some years ago, there was a T-shirt very popular out here that had in big fat letters on the front "SHUT UP B.ITCH." A lot of men wore them. They really offended me as a woman and a person but rather than wish there was a law against wearing them, I just chalked it off to those guys being jerks enough to wear something so disrespectful. That's how I think about these truck ornaments. Not arguing, just trying to explain myself.

Sorry RedGlitter................Tee shirts with semi crude words......and the hidden meaning.....dont compare to depictations of scrotums for all to see as some sort of *joke*

I can get down with the flow......let it ALL hang out.........at the right time....at the right place.

Would you object if the depiction was of an erect phallus ? Or female genitalia ?

I am being restrained in my wording....why ?

Because................ there is a time and a place.

I am of the generation that said "Let it all hang out.....if it dont hurt no one, let it be"

Let me tell you of an English DJ comedian.....he is late......a genious...in my opinion.....Kenny Everett

He had a TV show and a small sketch that remains in my memory to this day.....let me set the scene......

A misty scene of olde England .....horse drawn carriages.....just a bit of nonsense.....the scene was clouded by the intensity of the theatrical smoke/mist.......nobody could see the TV picture because of the cloudy vapour....then a caption came up...."A foggy day in London town" and suddenly the "F" tumbled to the right.....

Then a caption came on "Sorry for the F in fog"

The joke may be lost in translation.....but the guy had managed to say the "F" word on prime time TV......cleverly....without offending anybody.

NOW THAT is a joke.........My grandma laughed.....I laughed......my children laughed.......it was funny.....no one was offended on any level.

Plastic scrotums slung beneath motors is crude, rude , unmistakeably wrong.....with no mitigating credibilty.

Somebody has to complain......else next time it will be erect pricks.....sorry for that.

I'm off and on Bruv. I don't think you and I are disagreeing that much actually. You ask if I would object to female parts or phallic things, well, no more than I would these truck decorations. It doesn't mean I like them because I don't. I find this type of humor to be crude. And sure there's a time and place for everything, agreed, but I don't think there needs to be a law just because some people are crass enough to wear or display these things. The world is full of crassness and tackiness but we can't legislate everything. It might be the Libertarian in me talking. I'd write it off to no class or poor manners. That's just my take.

Having had the horrendous experience of living with a man, in Virginia, whose

truck was THE representation of, or alternative for his missing testicles, I will say this. I think the balls should be allowed to hang without a penalty. Its the greatest way to identify all of the moron males. And the great part is.. The idiots thought it up all by themdelves. The dad could have said to his daughter..... That bag on the back of that truck is the mark of a pea brain moron. And honey, whenever you see that, have nothing to do with the person driving the vehicle.

Im sure we are not........Apologies for one of my earlier posts.....on re reading it sounds very blunt.....it was supposed to be humorous......couldn't see the glint in my eye could you ?

This must be an American thing.....how common is it ?

It is not enough to say the person is a no good muppet.....so are rapists, robbers. You wouldn't excuse them on grounds of lack of breeding.

Strangely Im an ex hippy type, though hippies never fade, so ex is not correct.....just more mature. The hippy ideal....."If it dont hurt no one ....its OK" applies here.

Dont know how we in the UK would deal with this.....we have the **** tee shirt.....by comparison .... its almost clever.

So to end my tirade.....I agree......No we dont need another Law.....but the old ones should suffice.

Common sense, derision, public scorn, and if needs be.....Public decency Laws.....sure you must have them there ?

No need to apologize Bruv. :) I'm always saying stuff that would sound great if it had the benefit of inflection. ;)

I agree with you completely- societal law (public derision & scorn) would do nicely. I don't know about the public decency laws, I'm sure every state has some but how often they come into play I don't know. I think America is pretty much "live and let live."
