the were lucky looking at the pictures on sky news of the damage - only 3 minor injuries.

That really is amazing, given that the plane didn't reach even the runway before it came to a halt. It hit the ground 100 feet inside the perimeter fence? That's a quarter of a second's travel at landing speed, that's how close they got to a complete loss.

witnesses are saying it just dropped onto the ground and skidded, on teh pictures you can see a huge gauge for a long run in the grass, the wheels torn off on the grass, really awful.

Truly miraculous for the people in the plane, and those in the flight path. Also kudos to the flight crew, they did an excellent job in getting the plane down with no one killed. It will be very interesting to see why the engines failed, the Boeing 777 has a very good safety record, so its an unusual one. I did hear a theory that it might be something as simple as a large flock of birds destroying the 2 engines as it was landing, and that would certainly seem plausible from the early reports of what happened, still time will tell.
