It was a very tragic incident - one of those horrible accidents.

That's got to be one of the stupidest statements ever made.

Too many people doing their own thing to pay attention to a child in a parking lot! I feel sorry for the driver. That will haunt him/her for the rest of their life. The parents should have held his hand or something to be sure he didn't run off.

I cannot count the times I have nearly hit a school child crossing the street in the middle during heavy traffic instead of crossing at the walk.

"Pedestrians have the right of way" is bunk if they choose to cross against the light or through the middle of traffic.
When choosing between two evils, I always like to take the one I've never tried before.

What I find hard to understand is the level of aggression such a tragedy seems to invoke. Some little child lost her future. One broken family made a mistake, for whatever reason, and will spend the rest of their lives paying for it. People make all kinds of mistakes. We're human. It's easy to say we'd have somehow done differently. Been better, more vigilant. We might have. And we might just as easily have fallen down somewhere else. This is not about who likes kids or who has kids, or whether it's better to have kids or not, or whether people without kids can understand the pressures of people who do have them. It's about somehow passing judgement on one tragic incident which cost one family so very dearly. I hope none of us are ever in the position where, through some traceable fault of our own, we have to live with such dire consequences of our fallibility. I have no further comment.

YZ, thank you for your classy reply. I do appreciate that.

I'm not trying to give advice. From my angle all I keep hearing is "It's not my fault, kids will do that." I don't know if I'm not getting the right angle or if everyone just thinks I'm out for a fight this morning.

I KNOW kids do this stuff because I used to be one.

What I'm trying to say is you (meaning parents, not you personally) know it too so be smarter than your kid.

It's not advice. So many people here think I hate kids. I am tired of hearing about them getting run over. That's all.

We all are Red. We as parents also realize that we all have made mistakes along the way while rearing our children. We also know some of those mistakes could have turned out like theses families mistakes have turned out. It scares the hell out of us, and we all feel empathy for the families and realize that it could have been us in these situations because of the unpredictability of kids.

Honest to god red the only thing i see coming out of ignorance and offensiveness are coming out of you here. You're a frickin trip when you get on one of these 'you know better then folks who live it everyday' rants of yours. It just cracks me up! Not one parent would presume to tell another parent that something 'could never happen to me'..... EVERY ONE of us KNOWS damned well, it could be us tomorrow.

We simply thank god that it WASN'T us today and manage to feel some empathy for the parent fate did pick!

Oh, and btw... if it comes out that that driver was talking on a cell-phone or drunk, I lose all sympathy for her. THAT is negligence, Red!
Who are they to protest me? Who are they? Unless they've been me and been there and know what the hell they're yelling about!

Watch yourself grh. You need to settle the heck down. Your naivete cracks ME up. You're supposed to be an adult, a parent, and yet you let these suckers off the hook just because you know YOU could screw up one day too? That's stupid. Damned stupid. That says a lot.

Oh and fate didn't "pick" any parent that day. That unnecessary event took place because the parent failed. First it's car makers with you and now it's fate. Everyone/thing else except what it really is.

AE, we're supposed to be chilling here now. You're starting in again is not of help.

I'm going to state one last time how I feel and it stands as I feel it. You all can have any opinion you want as will I.

It is the woman's fault for running over her kid.

I certainly HOPE she feels terrible for what she did.

I don't CARE how she would feel knowing I "judged" her and neither should you, since we will never meet this woman.

Do not put it in my face again about not having kids. I cannot stress this enough to you.

This is getting out of hand. No one is knocking anyone for not having children. I think Wisey said it pretty well.

How can someone judge another when they have no knowledge or experience in the circumstances?

No one is putting it in your face Red. We are however pointing out that we ahve experience and that you do not. Its not a putdown it is a fact.
