I'm in training

:-6

Since I found weeder's secret wish, I will post mine, and how I hope to achieve it.

I am going to surf camp this summer, and learn how to surf. Born and raised in L.A. and never allowed to surf. Phooey on that now!

I found a surf camp about 2-3 hours from here, and plan to take some lessons in late June when school lets out. But I know at 53 I just can't show up, looking cool in my swim suit and all, and do it. :wah:

So, I do go to a gym-but that will not be enough. I have to practice all that swimming I know and never get to do. So I am going to start to do laps at a heated pool about twice a week-ghads, how nice is 85 degree water when there is snow outside? But, I will have to work my little old stamina up, so I can do it for a longer period of time. (and it was hard to find an indoor pool here! What's with that! But I found one about 10 miles away, $1.50 a visit, sounds good to me!)

Now, my kids indulge me, because they get a beach vacation out of it. My husband, I will let you know. I told him we were all going to the beach for 5 days, and if he knows everyday we are going, he will understand that we are. (Sneakily, I said we could go to his parents house instead, and he said no to that-his mom blabs alot, it would bug his poor mind and he knows it-this tactic worked quite well this summer when he knew we were going to my daughter's wedding, not too much balking when we went away, but he did sit on the couch like the child he is sometimes, and cried when we left him with the nurse, oh, I felt so sad) But, he will go with us, get some sun and eat good seafood, and it will be good for him too. You never know, it might be very theraputic to him in ways I do not know. (and the logistics of his travel, appropriate lodging, I am on that now-I have to plan alot to do this)

Now, any real surfers out there, I am open to suggestions for training and stuff, the guys at the gym tell me what to do but I know I could learn alot more. Since I haven't surfed yet. :)

:-6 Surfer Chicks are cool chonsigirl you will do great. :-6

Just practice that paddling on your knees in the back yard on your board. If they allow boards in the pool practice there it is very hard work paddling out over waves, your exhausted by the time you get outside Then you turn around and try and take one in on your belly for a few times. Then gradually try and stand and get your balance. The boards today are small and light so the work is less you will get it "Surfer Girl".

I will be in training for Chef school. At 52 - not ever going to happen - I hate working nights but I would love the techniques to extreme cooking at home.
