Do your screen doors give you problems?

We have two - each protecting a door which opens onto a rear patio - one a regular 'open and close' door from the great room and one a pocket door from the nook.

Now these screen doors behave perfectly normally for much of the time and then decide without warning to detach themselves from their runners and refuse to budge! No amount of fiddling around with the adjusting screws makes any difference. They stubbornly remain immobile.

It has to be admitted at this stage that several attempts by Mrs Eagle to walk through the screen doors without first opening them has not contributed to their smooth operation.

Suggestions of mine that she try going through them from the other side - also without opening them - to see if they would miraculously spring back into shape have been met with disdain.

Due to the frequency that I am forced to replace screen doors my local supplier has apparently placed me on his'Most Valued Client' list in company with local builders, renovation firms and so on.

I don't want to be on this list but he insists.

He greets me when he sees me out and about with earnest solicitions about my health and then goes on to describe the latest model of screen door he has in stock 'just waiting for the next time you need one which surely won't be long now'

He's right, of course, and tomorrow morning I will be calling him to order yet another set of screen door replacements!

I have one screen door and its definetly a pain. I played around with the screws one time till I gave up only because I was making the "sliding motion" worse than it ever was before. Hubby has attempted too.....no avail.



Nice to know I am not the only one who tries to walk thru them hehe. The bad part is, we can't live without them if we want to enjoy fresh air somedays.....too many bugs find their way inside if we didn't have something covering them.

Haven't had a problem yet, but I sure think about it. We just had a telescoping screen door installed last week (in telescopes from right to left). I almost started to walk through the screen on two occasions. It's really hard to tell that the door is there until you are real close.

LOL! I don't have the answer to your screen door problem other than some WD-40, Eagle...but, man, that was great writing! :wah:

i was thinking that perhaps, in an effort to help mrs.PE stop walking into the screen doors, and if she is art and craft inclined, she could attach some pretty glass beads to the screen (random pattern-whatever) with craft wire. this may help her see/detect the screen before she walks into it. you should be able to get all different colour and size glass beads and ultra thin craft wire at your local art-craft shop. the other advantages with glass beads is they are long-lasting, (colour wise) and sparkle in the sunshine. :-6

Why don't the characters in soap operas have screen doors on their house?

Anyhoo....My front screen door had a storm window on it that is so hard to raise up. It is heavy too.

I have no screen doors - yet. I miss them - throwing open the doors to let the air in and not the bugs. I'll probably hate the slamming and squeaking when I get them - but for now - I want screen doors!

Gotta have screen doors especially in the summer... love to leave the screen door locked till way after dark..

My mom has one of the disappearing screen doors on the way out the door to the patio. Very cool it is installed in a frame that is around the whole frame of the door, you just pull the screen and it click in the other side... clean, neat, and nice looking..
