A Warning For Lady Drivers
A Warning For Lady Drivers
I have been been sent this warning and want to share it with my English friends here.
This actually happened a few weeks ago right here in England . It was early evening and a young lady stopped to get petrol.
She filled her tank and walked into the store to pay for her petrol. The cashier told her ‘Don't pay for your petrol yet.....walk around the store for a while and act as if you're picking up some other things to buy.
A man just got into the back of your car. I've called the police and they're on their way'. When the police arrived, they found the man in the back seat of the girl's car and asked him what he was doing. He replied, he was joining a gang and the initiation to join is to kidnap a woman and bring her back to the gang to be raped by every member of the gang. If the woman was still alive by the time they finish with her then they let her go.
According to the police that night, there is a new gang forming here originating from London. The scary part of this is because the guy didn't have a weapon on him. The police could only charge him with trespassing.... He's back on the street and free to try again.
Please be aware of what's going on around you and for your family and friends. LADIES you or one of your family and friends could be the next victim.
Please be careful when leaving your vehicle and make sure it is ALWAYS Locked to prevent this from happening to you.

A Warning For Lady Drivers
It seems that this story has been making the rounds for years. Snopes even cites a variation of it as an urban legend from 1967, years before the internet.
http://www.snopes.com/horrors/madmen/backseat.asp
While it serves as a cautionary tale, it doesn't have any real basis, although Snopes suspects it was inspired by an incident in 1964 when a NYC police detective was ambushed in his own car.

It actually came from a police warning Richard not so long ago but old or not we should all be aware we must lock our cars whilst paying for our petrol or any other time we leave our car.

My friend once left her brand new rover running while she posted a letter through her mates door, literally yards away and yep it got stolen. We live in a rural village where crime is very low as a rule too, it can happen anywhere at any time, opportunists are in abundance, and im guilty of not locking my car on the garage forecourt but will from now on!
Thanks for the headsup Carolly x:-6

Yes, I agree the moral of the story is valid, for men or women of all ages.
Your original post said a friend passed it along to you. Was the police warning cited in the e-mail, or is there an official bulletin somewhere from the police?
The Snopes article mentions how a Cpl. Daniel Brub, an actual RCMP officer in Ottawa had his name associated with the story in September 2003. These things often snowball. Indeed, that is how they propagate.
I commend you for being vigilant , but I think we can all breathe a sigh of relief that it is a fabricated story.

I've had the same warning several times over the years from various friends - the last one just a couple of days ago.

A Warning For Lady Drivers
Fortunately I have always locked my car, whenever I have left it, and where ever I have left it. Thanks, Carol, for that timely warning ! It is so easy for drivers female or male, to not lock their vehicle when they go to pay for their petrol/diesel, as usually it is only a few steps away to the cashier. How long does it take for a person to quickly climb into the back of a vehicle ? Seconds !
As I have central locking on my car, it also locks/unlocks the petrol filler cap, so I have to always remember that and be alert after I have filled my tank. I have got into the habit of making a mental check-list of necessary actions to be taken when I go to a filling station - well I am not in my twenties any more so I have to concentrate on concentrating !!
Also, another habit to get into is always have your doors locked when in built up areas, and particularly when you stop at traffic lights or junctions - how long does it take for somebody to whip open the front passenger door ? Have your handbag/purse well out of sight, do not just dump it on the vacant front passenger seat - as I just asked, how long does it take for a person to whip open the front passenger door and reach in for the bag? How long does it take to smash the window, if he finds the door locked against him?
At the risk of appearing paranoic, ALWAYS imagine that everybody out there could be a thug, a drug addict, robber etc., and take the appropriate precautions.
I do know what I am talking about, because I have been there! It has nearly happened to me. In England they call it 'taxing' (stealing from a stationary but occupied vehicle waiting at traffic lights, or at a busy junction), and I can assure you it is a very frightening experience.
Thank you Carol, once again, for this timely warning matey.

there was also mentioned a couple of years ago about kids driving around lighted streets with their car lights out, the first driver that flashed their lights at them to tell them their lights where out, got shot at and this was supposed to be in london.

Carol:-6
I live in a lovely, quiet , little town next to a honky-tonk town. Sometimes, the "honky tonkeys" spill over into my town. Lately, homes around me are robbed in broad daylight and people are being mugged. I'm very careful even when I go to the local stores. I have my cell phone on all the time when I'm in my car and walking towards my door. Luckily, we have some good neighbors now who look after each other. I'm constantly aware of who's around me.

[/QUOTE]Kathy we all have to be so aware these days no matter what sex we are.The hard truth is the younger generation are not like we were when we were that age. Let me tell you something. I have spoken about being the first lady cab driver in the hardened East End and there was no mobile phones then...........But now NO way would I ever consider doing that job even though I do have a mobile phone. Its just got out of hand whats going on today.

We never had to lock anything here.
That was until our town started to boom because of the mining industry.
Now it's everything gets locked.
Although I must admit we thought our home was locked while we were in Syney a couple of weeks ago..............BUT.............it wasn't.
Just lucky I guess or good to have a police lady living next door;)
I lock the car all the time, I hate that we have to do it,but do it just the same.
When we lived out on our property we didn't even have all the keys the house so it never got locked up:-6
