i think i'm the same as you really....when it comes to posting reply's to people i like.....if i don't agree with them, i won't post, unless it could be put across in a way that doesn't sound nasty. Hope that made sense...LOL

I think if you dont give your point of view, that there really isnt any profit to being a member. For me, the whole idea is to provide alternate ways of looking at a situation. Then, we learn from each other. There will always be people here and in real life, who do not want to hear anything that disagrees with their view point. But thats ok. Now because you give the dog threads as an example... Ill say this. I never even look at threads that discuss dogs.

The reason is because I really am not a dog lover. So, in many cases my opinions would upset the dog lovers. The issues involving dogs, are not important for me personally. So, I feel why upset the boat, by throwing my two useless cents in. Religion??? Im never going to change anyones mind.

Politics? I dont know enough to say much. But on subjects that I am knowledgeable about, and on subjects that I really care about, I will give my opinion, even if it conflicts with what has been said. If everyone agrees about everything, all of the time, there wouldnt be any discussions. I say, feel free to give your opinions. Opinion makes the world go round.

so guys do you feel that you can post what you think or are you worried that you will be labeled nasty by the dog lover clique ,the michael jackson is normal all 50 year old men should sleep with 8 year old boys there is nothing wrong with it clique and so on :wah::wah:

I like almost everybody in the Garden and I think of many as my friends but that will not stop me putting my point of view.

Friends will accept that you might have a different opinion to them. Those who let a difference of opinion spill over into personal insult were not your friends in the first place - here or face to face.

Comparing attitudes with people from around the world and hearing the background to bare news-stories is part of the fascination of the Garden and goes hand in glove with the fun and games.

i think jim its a free country and so is this forum within reason i think you should be able to say what you feel

What i think is wrong is when there others out there that dont respect how people are feeling on certain things,i dont come on here much now but when i do i have always been able to pick up whre i left off.A lot of things have happened in my life in the past 4 mths which has taken me away from here.

Hope you and susie are well jim xx

You know Jimbo, you have brought up a good point. A lot of times I type a reply, but don't submit it. Why? Because it just isn't worth saying something as simple as "have a nice day" when you will be asked to name ten different sites that explain what a "nice day" is. :wah: My feelings are just that, MY feelings. I will not and do not want to have to explain them to anyone. My two cents for what it's worth.

If i disagree with a post, wether its a friend or not, sometimes i post my point of view, sometimes i dont:-3 It depends, there are some things that i think, but if i posted it would serve no purpose other than hurt a persons feelings so then i keep my opinion to myself. Sometimes you have to stop and think what is more important to you, that you should have your say despite someone maybe getting hurt? or another persons feelings? I know what i think, everyone else dont always have to know. Also i have friends on FG and off FG that i talk to in other way, msn, phone etc. sometimes we disagree, have different opinions etc. but i think if you are friends, surely you can disagree without falling out.

I'm always very careful with what I post.

But I'll argue with anyone, sometimes taking a position I may not agree with, just to encourage the conversation.:-6

Do I always post what I am thinking? Nope. A good example is an idiot that tries to intimidate or rile me with one of those 'if you know what's good for you, you won't go there' posts. I'm sorry.. and I know it's not what would be considered an appropriate response but I usually start laughing at this point, no matter how seriously I might have been taking a subject..:wah: That person has quite obviously lost what little was left of their mind(me having lost mine much earlier..:p).

But at that point, it would be like pulling wings off of flies and worse yet, making the rest of the garden watch:-2
Who are they to protest me? Who are they? Unless they've been me and been there and know what the hell they're yelling about!

Great thread again Jimbo!

Everyones response above me was great and I'm steady shaking my head in agree-ance (spelling?---you forgot the spelling police concern in your OP!)

I used to really worry about what I wrote, and there are still times I type something in and I go back and delete a post. The last thing I want to do is offend someone, I would like to think that I do a pretty good job of that.......

Although, there are times that some people take issues to extremes and in order to get the point across, you might step over that line a bit to prove your point.....

As for your friends....friends are true friends if you can agree to disagree and go on wif it!.....the ones that are quick to break up a friendship over a disagreement, might have not been a friend in the first place, but just an aquaintance that knows your middle name....:o

I for one am very thankful for all of my garden friends!:-4

the only time I don't bother is when there's a combo of certain subjects and certain posters. I don't feel like getting my ass bit off and I don't come here to "fight" or argue anyway so I just say "whatever" and carry on to lighter topics or just sign off for the day.

Well, let me say that *I* didn't label you nasty because of the dog thread,

not at all. You posted something that's in the news and that's valid.

What (for me only maybe) is different about that thread is that you

didn't seem to be trying to inflame the populace, as some have done

previously. Do I disagree with your opinion? Yes. But you disagree with

mine, right?

I'm an adult and consider myself a very fair-minded one. I just posted

my view in your dog thread because I personally feel a need to keep

at that kind of thing.

I have made some very, very close friends on here, and we are FAR

from agreeing on every subject, but those friendships are solid and

very valuable to me. It's possible, if you are the right kind of person.

Good thread Jimbo, iv'e deleted loads of replies to threads, mostly because I dont personally feel educated enough to be able to hold my own in the more serious threads here, im not having a dig there, thats my own insecurities. I try to keep an open mind and I would never ever ever post something that would intentionally hurt someone elses feelings as thats not me...I have read some truly awful threads here, people being really mean to one an other and I dont get involved because I can get fragile and emotional like the best of them and thats not why I use the internet. I lost a baby back in 2001 and went on to suffer with depression, I had 4 years of hell but I used the internet as an escape and the friends I made on the internet were my lifeline..Hubby didnt understand at first, until once I was well I was able to explain the special bond you feel with online friends etc..Sorry im rambling again as I usually do...I wish I didnt care about other peoples points of view but I do, I strive to be as pleasant, helpful, happy and liked in the Real World and act no differently online. Im just me.......Im learning that their are some real nasty people out there, im lucky iv'e not met many in real life but I have online. Manners cost nothing.

Dont know what made you post this Jimbo, but im glad you did as the Garden seems very edgey from when I first joined...Lots of bickering........Lifes to short for nit picking I feel...Lets have fun!:-6

Ok here I go.......I hope I have the nerve to post this when I done.

I do not voice my opinion much on here about anything I think will rile another member. Not that I think I am better then anyone else because of it.

It's just my ego will not let me. I have very little nerve to stand up for my self. And because of this, I am truly a scaredy cat. :o

I don't like to be in confrontations, in real life or online. The only time I really feel like speaking my mind is when I see a member being disrespectful to another. Giving a different opinion isn't to me showing disrespect. It's the pointing out of (so called) character flaws of other members because they don't agree with the posters point of view. :(

In my time here, I have noticed some truly lovely members. I have not spoken to all of you. I do intend to. But I must admit I lurk more then post.

I can relate to what Peg said. Many times I have a reply written, then deside not to post it. My feeling are my own.

I feel I can deal with others opinions better, then putting mine out there to be exposed and try to defend.

Does that make me a faker? I don't think so. I did not join a forum to argue or even debate. I don't need or want to know EVERYTHING other members disagree with me about. I can base my friendship on the good things,an go from there.

I hope in the future If I do get in a tangle with a member, we are able to be quick and painless about it as possible.

I do believe all of us here are good people in our hearts. We all want the same things, Love,Happiness, and Friendship. :-6

Now all I have to do is click the reply button. Can I do it,here I go

My best friend nicknamed me Turtle years ago. The reason is because rather than have a confrontation over anything that has hurt me..... I pull my head in like a Turtle... creep away, and hibernate, She and I had issues between us that had hurt me, a couple of years ago. I did my turtle thing. She forced me to put my head out, and discuss the problems. Had she not come after me, I would have lost my very dear friend. I learned a lot about communicating because of that incident. Gradually, I have changed. I am now able to state how I feel.

I will disagree with someone if I think I know enough about the subject that I am disagreeing with, or my heart drives me regardless of my knowledge :D However I do try to do it in a way that is not deliberately hurtful, although sometimes sadly my posts do come out wrong - hence my 'I'm sorry' threads :o

I do feel that some people do post to deliberately be hurtful, those people go down in books, even if I did originally agree with them.
