My son (12 years) had to do a speech about war. His opening line was 'War is hellish at the best of times'. I'm not sure if this is his own words, or some he found elsewhere. It kinda gave me hope that (for all we say about the younger generation) perhaps they see a future that is peaceful, a future that they have a say in.
Do you think our youngsters, with all their 'attitude' just maybe have the answer. We knock them for their attitude, we knock them for their apparent 'bloody mindedness', but just maybe they could be the ones that stop this craziness.
At 12 years, I did not give a toss about war - at least they are thinking about it.

We were told that the russians had a bomb that would wipe us all out but not contaminate the useful resources in our ground.
I was born during the Vietman war. Children were told the 'commies were coming to get us"
Then we had the boat people arrive on our shores.
After this we were told Indonasia taught in their schools about the top end of Australia being theres'. So they could come and get us at any time.
Then we were bombarded with the gulf War on our televisions in my teenage years
Then the middle eastern conflict and the towers and terrorists.
Ourselves and our children have hardly time to catch breath before another war has broken out that has involved our countries.
How could a child not think about it?
maybe American children like everyone else around the world are now a little closer in proximity to these conflicts.
