Groundhogs and candles

Post by AussiePam »

2 February!!!

And it's Candlemas

Grounhog Day

La le Brid, St Bridie's day

La Chandeleur

---------------

So happy day to all.

In France you eat crepes. And say things like

Chandeleur couverte, quarante jours de perte

- which is similar to Punxsutawny Phil's shadow.

If it snows, 40 more days lost to winter.

----

I'm going to combine celebrations. Lighting a candle and dancing round a bonfire sounds fun and may give strength to help rebirth the sun. I'll then make ze crepes and settle down to watch Bill Murray put his little hand in mine... once again once again, breaking his pencil every time.. (yeah I know I'm in the wrong -more correct- hemisphere)

Crêpes suzettes

Préparation : 20 mn + 2h de repos

Cuisson : 20 mn

Ingrédients (pour 6 personnes) :

- 250 g de farine

- 50 cl de lait

- 3 oeufs

Bon app !!!

I actually got to the celebration in PA a few years ago, Jimbo. It was a hoot !!!! Ice sculptures, dancing in the streets, thousands of people camped out in the snow, the funny blokes in full evening regalia etc... GREAT.

I bought a copy of the DVD some time ago, Jimbo, and watch it as a matter of honour, every 2 Feb. We're already on 2 Feb here in Australia, so I've told my social secretary to cancel all other engagements. I'm staying in to watch the box.

or as the Fete de Chandeleur has somehow reverted me to my French side

Well, Kaylene, actually it's also a very special day on the old old calendar. The feast of Imbolc.

Imbolc Ritual

I am East.

I am the Golden One.

Bringer of the Dawn

where new beginnings emerge

and all things are possible.

I am South.

I am the Brilliant One.

Caretaker of the Day

where life is transformed.

I am West.

I am the Shapeshifter.

Usher of Twilight.

Bringer of tranquility

where we learn stillness.

I am North.

I am the Nurturer.

Keeper of the Night.

Creator of the Sacred Spaces

where we rest our hearts and spirits.

I am Center.

I am the All.

Guardian of the Mysteries

where time and space are infinite.
