Should I keep it until she gets home from school so we can bury it, or should I get rid of it before school kicks out?

I agree with RJ.:-6
But you should check the water for a tiny gun so the next fish doesn't go "Amercan" and start shooting again.:wah:

I know its only a fish, but it little sad really. We have had him for 3years, he was about 4 inchs long. I wonder what killed him. I hope the other 2 are okay. I moved him to another tank, I think I will put a cover over it - I can't bear looking at it.
Hey Wisey, maybe it was the other fish with the little gun :wah:

One of our cats died 18 months ago, she took it very badly (he was only 8 months old). We did a ceremony for him, and answered all her questions in the best way we could.
I don't think we can flush the fish, he's a bit big.

Another important lesson is watching how the parents deal with it and whether or not they are respectful of the dead.
My father always stopped the car and moved dead animals to the side of the road... I don't do it, but every time I see road kill, I remember his actions..
There are other important lessons learned too..
Well said RJ. :-6

I always thought of a Goldfish as being the perfect pet, they don't eat much, never show unhappiness or pain, don't bark or make annoying sounds and their wastes are minimal.
It's really hard to get emotionally attached to a Gold Fish and when you come home and find them floating belly up, you can just flush them down the toilet.

Or, if they are big enough you can filet and fry them.

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.
WOO HOO!!, what a ride!!!"

I find that crushing Beta fish usually ends in their demise.

when my kids were little, we had a goldfish (not for long of course) until my youngest who was about 2-3 decided that it was cold and needed to be put in a sock....needless to say, the fish didn't benefit from the well meaning actions of my son....
I've flushed the fishies down the toilet before, they understood though...we've had a lot of animals die unfortunately!:-1

I used to keep a 90 gl saltwater tank in Fl. When I moved to Minnesota I had to "make the fish go away"
I had one clownfish I was extremely fond of.
I lived on a canal that led out to the bay that led to the gulf so I gently placed him in the water to run free like the wind. He just swam in one place looking up at me while I sat on a rock feeling horrible. No way he would make it in that water but who knows ?
I hope your still out there little friend !

When my son was about 4, he had a pet snail. :wah: When it died, he cried and cried. He insisted on a proper burial ceremony for it.

She cried a lot more than I expected. It may have been because we buried him next to her kitten :-1
