Inland Revenue

Post by Pheasy »

Five years after leaving the UK we receive a 'demanding' letter from the Inland Revenue. This debt had to be sorted by end of Feb, or they would 'torture' us :D

Apparently we owe 500 pounds. $1,000  So I called them and tried to make a payment using our Visa card. Well their system does not deal with 'out of country visas' So I considered doing a bank transfer, but then wondered about the current exchange rate, and if it would fully close the debt on that day.

So we approached the UK employer, who was happy to pay the debt and then deduct that from salary. But the Inland Revenue would not speak to the Uk employer, even though all they wanted to do was make a payment.

All we want to do is pay the debt. Jeeez!!

I totally agree. It took them 5 years to decide we owed money, then they threatened us with legal action if payment was not made within a month, then proceeded to make it as difficult as possible to pay. Oh well, they have their money now - enjoy Inland Revenue :-5
