AFTR, who lives in Georgia, cleared her throat and said," I have a confession to make. Charlie Daniels got the lyrics for that song from me. I.........I was there and saw the whole thing.........with Johnny and the Devil. You see, Johnny is .........my son. When he saw the devil coming, he told me to hide. I did, but I watched and heard the whole thing. Johnny is the fiddler for the Charlie Daniles Band now and he visits me regularly. But the only time this incident comes up is in the song. We never talk about it."
