Why is it that a lot of these crazy gun maniacs are targeting schools? Why schools? I know it is difficult to understand what drives anyone to want to shot people, but why schools?

They target schools for the "WOW" factor. The noteriety they get is what feeds them. If they were to target a crack house they wouldn't become famous in their own beady little eyes.

I think its also because a lot of them are students themselves. Very sad, unfortunatly it seems to be becomming a very regular occurence in the U.S. now, what that implies about US society, and the glamourization of violence and people's seeming sense of entitlement to kill fellow citizens at will, is something Americans need to work out for themselves.

I work for a major university. We now have contact information options on our site for the employees, in case of emergency. Apparently, one of the students from our campus is going to court for posting a threat on his MySpace page. And no, he's not a teenager either.

I'd have to agree with you on that. I've already been robbed at gunpoint, myself.

HAHA!! Tell that to the NRA! I'd love to. But as they say, the guns that are used aren't usually obtained legally...

Guns are a more accessible over here, and most kids are brought up with guns in their homes. But I wonder how that should make them want to going on killing sprees.

I'm not sure what the problem/difference is. Possibly pressures? I understand that this student was on medication for something & didn't take it.

It's not about the guns anymore then it is about people who own black clothing and ski-caps. it's about the fifteen minutes of fame. it's about going out in a blaze of glory( even if it is glory in your mind only)
millions of u.s. citizens own guns. one of those went ape-**** yesterday. millions of u.s. citizens own cars. one most likely went ape-**** yesterday and tried to run someone over with theirs. every household has knives...guess what probably happened..
We need to quit giving them their moment of fame. We need to focus all the airtime on the victims and what they were worth to society.
I don't own a gun. That doesn't stop me from going on a rampage and killing innocent folks. If I wanted to, I would find a way.

Seriously though.. this is a local story for us here in my world. The 32 year old got convinced by her family to leave the armed forces because they were afraid for her chances if she had been deployed again...
Can you just imagine what they are doing to themselves right now?:-1

I agree with Floppy and also feel that some people target schools because they were so angry when they were in school and want to take revenge within a school.
For as much as my administrators feel that our school is safe, it isn't. I keep a careful eye on everyone who enters our building and don't stay late anymore. Anyone can sneak in at the end of the day and hide out. It's really scary....

Hmmm - quite a few of these cases, that I have read recently, have stated this.
