Help me write a book....
Hello,
I am new to this sight. I was wondering if some of you could help answer a question which is the basis of a new novel I am writing. The question is not easy to answer but, here goes.
"IF YOU KNEW THE WORLD WAS GOING TO END IN JUST 3 YEARS, (BY NATURAL MEANS), WHAT WOULD YOU DO?"
I would like to get a lot of answers from a large demographic.:guitarist::-5

Join a mass movement to transfer as much human knowledge, history, art, philosophy and music onto a sealed archive capable of retaining the information for billions of years and launching copies of it to safety in space, accompanied by permanent self-sustaining lunar and Mars colonies if those could be developed in time.

OK, good start. What if you found out that most of the mass knowledge collected over the past 6000 years of history was a bunch of crap and inaccurate? What would you do then. What are the important things in life that you would keep and what would you let fly out the window?

The judgements of the current generation are just that - transient and imperfect. I'd refuse to apply any selectivity. Whatever's lasted this long has done so because it meant something to someone at some time, that's better evidence of its value than anything this generation could decide.
As for accuracy, what was believed true is more interesting in many ways than what we now believe to be true. What tomorrow would have thought of our current knowledge is unknown but you can be sure it would be as much "a bunch of crap and inaccurate" to them as the past's view is to us.

My thoughts exactly, (although not as eloquently prosed). History repeats itself and considering the way the world has turned out so far it's a shame. So, aside from assuming that you are anyone else is going to survive, what would you do with your last few years of existence. Would you pay your bills? Would you look up an old girlfriend, (or boyfriend)? Would you lock yourself up in a little shrine on Mt Rainier and live like a hermit. Would you turn to god? Etc. Etc.
I presume, (since that's all I can do at this moment), that a lot of people would answer differently. How each one answers that questions says a lot about them. And if they had a chance, to play Adam & Eve, it says a lot about what the new age of man would eventually become.:-2

He who chooses an active volcano upon which to construct his hermitage has an interesting approach to contemplative detachment.

OK, Mt. Rainier was a bad choice but, it highlights how we can make poor choices when we don't give serious attention to serious questions, (even if they are hypothetical).
So some more questions. If the world collectively knew they were doomed would wars cease or intensify? What would happen to the insurance industry? How many nurses would stay at their posts. How many people would show up to vote in November and who would they vote for?

You're an idiot unless you can work out the association between the thread title, the original post and the poll, how's that?
Take your time, it's not an easy one.

That was my take on it. There was also the interesting use of the word 'sight'. Should be an interesting read. I am still working out my answer.

OK I'm back. Two short things: A) No I'm not from Washington, Mt Rainier thing was a random reference, (kind of like when you reach deep into your pocket and find the stub for a ticket to a movie you saw 3 months ago.) I'm from San Francisco Bay Area. and B) Dude, cool bike. Do you have the t-shirt to go along with it?

OK, Four short things A and B as above. NO, I'm not a Jehovah's Witness, (haven't seen them for years at my door), and finally, what's with the obscure reference to Burger King crowns, I haven't worn one of those since I last to spoke to a Jehovah's Witness dressed like Spock who rode up to my house on Mt Rainier to poll me on my view of the Bible.

Technically that should be qualified. Logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. I suggest we eat the pheasant.

OK, My bad. I guess "Nothing Matters" qualifies as a legitimate response. Am I to take that as "It's all good", or "What difference does it make"?

So, it's business as usual for you? Not a bad idea, certainly takes the strain off.

CHONSIGIRL: Cute bunnies. How about you, got an opinion on what you would do with a limited time left before global annihilation? Just asking. I have to have something substantial for my publisher to justify spending so much time on line.
