I think it depends....my kids actually keep their rooms somewhat clean....its the rest of the house they could care less about....

Growing up....my brother was (and still is majorally) a NEAT freak....his room was spotless, everything put in its proper place....and umm....well yeah...my mom used to ask if something would bite her from under my bed if she came into my bedroom.
