Hi all! I'm here in Ohio, in a small town on Lake Erie. I split my time between here and Columbus, home of my favorite Buckeyes. I am a bar consultant and raise horses. I am also the proud owner of the best Boston Terrier on the planet, Dillon. Nice to be here with you all!:D

Is it warming up from winter? Where you live sounds like one of the chillier parts until Spring arrives.

Hey Peg, I reckon a 'bar consultant' is somebody who goes into bars, leans on the counter and discusses the various 'tipples' with the bar staff :wah: Oops sorry Girlfriday

LOL, sorry, I missed the consultant question! I specialize in opening, staffing, and managing bars and restaurants. I go in and hire/fire staff, make sure the business is in compliance with laws and codes, and charge an outrageous fee to do it. Typically, a consult can take anywhere from 1 month to 1 year, and the people reqiring my services have to cover my travel and living expenses, too. Plus, I'm independent, so I'm not only my own boss, but the boss of everyone else! It's so much fun!:D

Do you think the smoking ban here in Ohio is hurting the businesses?

Without a doubt, the smoking ban has made a huge difference. One bar I opened in Columbus is a strip club, totally nude, and BYOB. Because they are a private club, they can be open 24 hours, but yet no one can smoke inside anywhere? Yeah, it's hurting everyone, including me, businesswise and personally because I smoke.

So give up. The smoking ban here hasn't had any appreciable effect on the pubs. Also smoking is bad for you (I gave it up years ago).

Why is it that reformed smokers and nonsmokers say it hasn't hurt business and smokers say it has? :wah: And just give up smoking? I wish it was as easy as that.
