God I hate painting.
Ive been forced to paint many times in my life. I try to start with a new and positive attitude each time, but I wind up hating it by the second hour. No matter what I do, it is a mess. I get new rollers, pans, etc.... In a matter of minutes the paint is in my hair, on the floor... whatever I am wearing is ruined, and I particuarly loathe the way the spray from the roller goes in my eyes, and burns. I stand there thinking " How do some people not only do this for a living? But do a beautiful job as well. Picking colors is a nightmare.. they never look the same on the wall. And those places where you have to do a straight line?? Like where the ceiling meets the walls??? Ugh!! Youve got to be kidding me. Im off now, to paint again today, I am trying to get just one room done, so I can put some stuff in it. This is day # 3 on room #1
God help me.
God help me.

My sympathy's to you Laura, I hate painting too.
I bought one of those super rollers where you load the paint inside the roller,
it's supposed to minimise splatter and the paint goes further.
Yea right!
After loading it with paint it's so bloody heavy, you need muscles like a bloke to use it.

I am SO NOT creative that way - stick figures are still a downfall for me. I admire anyone who attempts this.

Your problem is that you're not a "straight line" person. Ever try one of those paint treatment techniques? They're not as tough as you might think. Grab some kind of bland beige color, kind of on the caramel shade, slap the paint up there. Don't sweat it if you miss a tiny spot or so. Get another color with more yellow. Dip a sea sponge -- huh? sea sponge too expensive? -- Dip a wadded up piece of newspaper gently into the yellow and start smacking the wall in a random fashion. Quite cathartic and surprisingly easy. The results may surprise you. That line at the ceiling only matters to the person that painted it. put a line of masking tape along the wall and paint away.

FOC THREAD PART 1
God I hate painting.
When we painted our house, it turned out (pretty much by accident) that the there was a subtle tint to each room ... red, orange (kitchen had a faux finish), yellow (son's room), green (light olive-grey with white trim), blue (bathroom), purple (daughter's room). It just worked out by accident that as you walk to one end of the house it goes from warm to cooler colors ... a big rainbow
Had someone pitched the idea to me before seeing it, I'd think it would have looked terrible
but it actually turned out pretty cool. The colors are tints are subtle (and pulled down in tone) but look nice.
My wife worked as an interior designer for a while, so she picked the colors. Before that I typically just used off-white.

I know about that off white. My hubby used to paint the all the walls that awful color but then the kids couldn't stand it anymore and neither could I. Downstairs is a grey green color and the upstairs bedrooms are purple, green and a lighter green and well, the bathroom is still not done after 3 years. Anybody want to paint my bathroom? Surprise me.

The bedroom looks great. Now tomorrow I have to clean up the splashes that are all over the wooden floors. I ripped the medicine chest out of the bathroom wall, only to discover the building is so old.... they dont make that size anymore. So, I bought a bigger one to go over the hole, and I will be using TOGGLE SCREWS to attach it. Sound scary doesnt it?? I will also paint the bathroom, re caulk, and replace crummy metal towel racks, that I also took off. Friday, I begin the kitchen painting. I should be able to sleep there by Monday night...... if Im still living. My shoilders are crippled, and Ive aged about 10 years in three days. Thanks for all the replys, everyone. Your all great.
