Pheasy is feeling very sappy

Post by Pheasy »

I am thinking about my visit to the UK. I have my Nanny who became my Mum after my mum died. My Nanny is 92, I get very upset when I think of her, sometimes I think if she dies I need to fly home for her funeral. But she would be pissed at me, I can hear her saying, what damn good was it you coming to my funeral, I wanted you here when I was living. I have not been home for 4 years - she adores me, and I her. I owe her so much, she is my life, how could I leave her. We cried together when my Mum died, she just kept saying 'my beautiful baby has gone'. I was the one that said let her go Nanny, she had a good life - she would not want to live like this. My Nanny is my life, I have to go home, and when I am there my time is hers. Please don't go Nanny before I get to you. :-4:-4

I left her in pursuit of my own life. She needed me. So much wrong has happened in her life, me and my family were a good thing in her life, and we just left. her alone :-1

Let her know that you love her while she is still living. Give her as much love as you can, she was there for you, and she needs to know that you care for her as much. After she is gone, there is no point, except for your own feelings.

Pheasy, when are you going to visit her? Aren't you going this summer? Would you consider bringing her back to the states? You'll need to get her a laptop if you do.

I was thinking the same thing RJ. Can she make the trip now and you could fly her home in November when you go?? Or just have her stay and live with you here in the US.

do airlines allow 92 year old to fly or is their no age discrimination and you just have to pass that airlines personal criteria/medical fitness etc...

I can't imagine airlines have age restrictions, and I guess that they may leave it up to that passenger or accompaning family members to decide whether they are fit enough to fly. Just a guess though.

I love the idea though, I think it would be great to show your gran lots of sights and spend some extra time together! :-6

Your granny would be right in her thinking Pheasy. If you have to sacrafice to make it to her funeral, then why not substitute the sacrifice in the first place to visit with her while she is still alive, and make you both happy at the same time? The other vist would be after the fact, and - - - - . Are you the only one she has back there? If so, you could make her future final arrangements during your visit, and maybe then would you not have to attend the funeral if finances prohibited it. I keep telling my wife, we need make pilgrimages to visit our friends & relatives while they're still alive, not make the pilgrimage after they pass. (If it were possible as others have suggested, to bring her back with you, then that could be a better option)

I knew I should not of revisited this thread :-1 Thanks everyone, you are all so great, I am lucky to have found FG and it wonderful members :-4

I do love it here in the States, but missing my family does hit me on occasion, specially when I think of Nanny. I will try to bring her back with me - I know she won't come here to live with us though :( I am going to try and talk one of my nieces into coming back with us too, so she won't have to fly back on her own. :-6
