I keep getting lost

Post by Pheasy »

Seriously I am the worst for finding places :-5 I can drive some where 30 times and get lost every time (unlike DH who can drive somewhere once and then still remembers the directions 10 years later ).

What is it with me and directions? :-5 I even got this GPS (irritating little sh1t she is too), she sends me in the wrong direction, then keeps telling me to make a 'legal u-turn', constantly reminds me that she is having to recalculate  Proudly states that "I have reached my destination - when clearly my destination is no where in sight :-5 She is going die a slow and painful death!

Is it just me? :-5

I can pretty much always drive somewhere, my problem comes when

I try and tell somebody else how to get to the same place... I fail

miserably because I just get in the car and drive, I don't retain the

street names or anything.

Of course, with friends and family living in the "country" the kinds

of directions I usually get are "go up the hill past the fish hatchery..."

I have never used a GPS system....and I've really needed one many a time....although mapquest has gotten me so lost that I can only imagine what the gps system would do to me!:o

I'm like Valerie, classic directions from me, "turn right at McDonalds, go 4 stop lights, turn left at the Wa Wa, go about a mile or so and look for a red barn, turn there!":o:rolleyes:

I think it must be a girl thing:wah: I couldn't find my way out of a paper bag.:wah: If I do by some miracle find where I'm supposed to be going, I can't seem to reverse the directions to find my way back.: Yet I know guys who can go 15 years inbetween trips and still know where they are going.

Then there's that whole thing they are telling on the news about if you're pregnant or have had a baby you start getting forgetful, they call it momnesia:wah: I thought maybe that's why so many of us girls can't remember things like directions. My mom says I'm more forgetful since I had my baby. Well, I guess I got knocked up and lost my mind.:wah::wah:

I think they should say things like "if you see a red barn you've gone too far... you wanna turn around and go back to the gas station then make a right."

Like chezzie I have a terrible sense of direction, not only in the car but on foot!

I even get lost when I go to football, I sit in the same seat every visit but always end up on the wrong row,

it's become a standing joke with the guys who sit either side of me, I'm sure they take bets on where I'll sit.

I've just taken dad to have his treatment planned in Manchester, I left him to go for a coffee and got lost

despite being directed 5 times and signs on the walls directing me.

It is so embarrasing:o

I guess some of us are homing birds and some of us are just confused ducks.;)

I'm not that bad at finding places its just getting there for a second time that bugs me
"Why not just tell people I'm an alien from Mars. Tell them I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight. They'll believe anything you say, because you're a reporter. But if I, Michael Jackson, were to say, 'I'm an alien from Mars and I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight', people would say, 'Oh, man, that Michael Jackson is nuts. He's cracked up. You can't believe a damn word that comes out of his mouth.' " Michael Jackson

I suffer directional dyslexia as well. I actually have to think before turning left or right. This is not nearly as funny as it seems. This is why I absolutely hate being the driver when I go anywhere with a carload of people, particularly when the trip is through unfamiliar territory.

Hubby bought a sat nav recently so he 'tested' it (played with it) by getting it to direct us to somewhere we've been loads of times then not following her directions. Poor woman had to recalculate so many times I was convinced she'd get stroppy and tell him 'If you're not going to bloody listen I'm not going to bloody tell you!!'

Me - I'm quite good at finding my way unlike my friend who you tell 'Turn left here, no your other left'!!!

Ladies its not a girl thing you can do it. I know men who can't find their way out of a paper bag. :wah:

Sure Men are more visual then we are but not always. It is real basic you must know your right from your left. You must also know which way is North, South, East or West and you can get any where most of the time. Landmarks are great, signs also and colors work as well, if any of those variables change you could be in trouble. Pay attention that is usually the biggest problem when driving. You need to focus, focus, focus on your surroundings.

So trust your instincts and see what happens. Get a compass on our dashboard and allow time for your trips so you won't be in panic mode when your driving. :D

My old secret was to just drive to where I thought the place was, roads, etc. and then I discovered mapquest which does work, although it does not tell you which streets are getting road construction, etc. which really screws you up:wah:

The GPS system has its flaws. They did a study on it and found that it takes you to the right road, etc. but it could be one way or their's construction going on, etc. We had the option to put it in our new car, but bagged it.

Kathy Ellen, of course in New Jersey where you are practically surrounded by the highways (turnpike/garden state parkway) that is understandable:wah:

:wah:Thankfully we have those roads...a few times I got lost driving home from New York or PA and all I did was look for signs for the turnpike and parkway. What a relief seeing those signs....:-4
