Okay I don't know how the rules change for dating when you turn 18. Do i have to still tell my parent's? I mean i know the rules for when i was younger but i never actually had to worry about them... but now i do. well... lets just leave it at that. does the guy still have to call dad and all that junk? i would ask my mom but i don't really want to go into it. so... I ask ya'll!
BTW... i am procrastinating a paper... just thought i'd share...

on a serious note - Do you live at home? Are you real close to your mom that you'd chat about dating?
Do you have to tell your parents ? NO - your first few dates should really be outside - perhaps in a group - meet for dinner - just meet outside.
Your only introduce the serious ones to DAD..

Things are different over here - check with your parents???? Blimey, at 18 legally you're an adult in the UK, you can drink, vote, get married, have sex (at 16), smoke, drive lots of things that are either bad for you or can get you into trouble!!!
Just to be on the safe side though, always make sure someone knows who you're with, where you're going and what time you expect to be back. Doesn't have to be a parent a friend will do, a young woman must watch out for herself and not take needless risks. I'm sure that he's a lovely young man but I'm a mother of 3 girls and I've worried about them all and the boys they go out with!!

I think he should introduce himself to us, so we can give him a 'good grilling', and decide if he's good enough, and if he has good intentions

Just mention it to him and see what happens. At 18 you are old enough to make your own choices on who your friends are, we parents don't always like it but we do accept it (eventually!!!)
Do it in the context of 'just so you know so you don't worry dad....'

Well ask first make sure he isn't an alien like Cars and then ask him if he wants TLW. If both are positive no's then I say you might be onto a winnter Skittles!
Hahaha seriously though, I would just take things slowly and maybe mention to your mum or dad that there is a guy you like and a bit about him. Then after a few dates with him, that for me would be the time to introduce him and let your boyfriend and parents have a talk.
I wouldn't worry too much though unless you have REALLY strict parents, but only you will be able to decide, just do what you feel is best, but whatever you do I wouldn't go behind their backs with anything because that may come to haunt you at a later date.

Hi, Skittles! It’s me Smash, Jesters daughter. My dad said to tell you the rules for getting a date.
1.Don’t even think about it till I’m out of highschool.
2.Any boy that asks for a date I am to give him my dads work number and he has to call and ask permission to date me.
3.My dad says ‘no’ the first time to all boys, those brave enough to ask twice he will consider.
4.He interviews them.
5.If they pass he tells them they can now ask me for a date.
Dating rules are all together different. I have to date in groups and the first date is chaperoned by my dad. He says if the boy gets closer than six inches to me he will lose whatever body part he touches me with, even by accident. I love my dad, he is my hero and the best man I know. I trust him to help me when I start dating. Right now he teases me all the time and says I can never date anyone, but I know he loves me and will help protect me when the time comes.

Hi Smasho, welcome to FG. :-6
Your relationship with your dad sounds wonderful, that's really good to hear. :-6
And I certainly wouldn't want to be the person that got on the wrong end of your dad and that shotgun he talks about!

The rules for my daughter's growing up to go out on a date:
1. Don't even think of it until 16.
2. The boy must ask permission first, from a parent, then we will start to talk about it.
3. After 18, as long as you live at home, rule #2 applies.
Only one daughter went out before 18. It wasn't a problem at all....:wah:
What became of all this? Well, one daughter married to a nice man. #2 daughter has a serious boyfriend-she is 22. But they always stop by here, phone or text me when they are out, tell me where they are going. Half of it is because of the rules, the other half is their kind consideration for mom, who might need help at home. :-4

And boy am I gonna be tough on that lad. I actually have three rules for perspective boys. They have to be saved, they have to be actively serving the Lord in some capacity and I am not too picky on what type, if they just mow the church grass thats a start. And they have to be seperated from the world and seperated as a practice onto God. If I see evidence of all three of those things in a young fellas life, he can date my duaghter. But he better honor her or I'll tear him apart. I plan on training him the rest of the way myself. He's gonna be my son after all, not just her husband.
And you do know that I ruined my reputation as being the mean father who will never approve ANY boy. :-2Those are the exact standards i have for even considering dating a guy. You done good jester. lol

I think my standards are high enough that you'd think my parent's would just trust me... i mean sheesh, well actually blame my older sister. she kinda inspires me... so yea basically this
1. He has to be a Christian and live it as well.
2. He better love his country and be willing to die for it... sorry i don't date hippies...
3. He has to respect his parent's and mine and my siblings and his if he has any...
4. Has to be able to bench press 200 lbs. (haha i throw that in for kicks)
5. Has to keep up with me...
6. Will let me have my own life...
7. Someone who is not overbearing and controlling but still authoritative... Can tell me to shut up when i need to.
8. He has to have some sort of clear plan with his life.
9. I'm sorry but he has to love Mac's. I can't ever be with anyone who doesn't.
10. Will eat my sisters cooking with a straight face! haha that one's an inside joke really....
my sister has others that i don't really go for such as,
Never drank a beer in his life, smoked or had sex.
My thought is people make mistakes and learn from them. but if they continuously do all that... then heck no!

Now I'll tell you why its important to have them call for permission from your parents, even after your away from home. It tells him that you are valued and held in high regard by your parents. It also helps to develop that relationship with your parents where he will become part of the family (possibly) someday. That relationship is very important to nurture and build on.
Dating is only a small part of the whole process of courtship, in my opinion, its based on levels of friendship that develop into deeper levels of committment as you grow together.
Your picking a life mate after all, so be sure your following your own standards and keep them high like you have them!
That's really nicely put Jester! :-6

Lucky for me there was a heathen woman out there 32 years ago. Now after 28 years married i know for sure she didn't have her standards near high enough or else I would have never penetrated the defense system..

All this asking parents before dating is totally alien to me, kids Skittles age just don't do that here.
Maybe they should, maybe then there'd be less teenage pregnancies, less std's and less binge drinking.
Something for us to think of..............
