Loved this one.

Reviews were average.

"A recounting of the relationship between General Fairfax and Oliver Cromwell, as they try to cope with the consequences of deposing King Charles I. "

It was a grand account of what transpired before Cromwell became Lord Protector of England and making England into England into a republican Commonwealth. As well it portrayed how instrumental he was in having King Charles I executed. I found it interesting to see how Fairfax worked too and just where his loyalties lied.

Dougray Scott ... Thomas Fairfax

Tim Roth ... Oliver Cromwell

Olivia Williams ... Lady Anne

Rupert Everett ... King Charles I

Corin Redgrave ... Lord de Vere

James Bolam ... Baron Denzil Holles

Finbar Lynch ... Cousin Henry

Melissa Knatchbull ... Lady Margaret

Adrian Scarborough ... Sgt. Joyce

Jake Nightingale ... Capt. Pride

Jeremy Swift ... Earl of Whitby

Richard Bremmer ... Abraham

John-Paul Macleod ... Richard Cromwell

Jessica Hazel ... Cromwell's eldest daughter

Katy Cross ... Cromwell's middle daughter

Julia Bridgeman ... Cromwell's youngest daughter

Haven't seen it, not sure I'll bother.

What happened in those years still echoes down to the present day. The real story is actually more gripping than anything a film maker can dream up. Cromwell gets a bad press in some ways-on the other hand he was a Christian fundamentalist tyrant that put back real democracy for decades.

On the other hand if it gets people interested to want to know more that's no ad thing at all.
